Today is the first day of a new year! Yes, it’s just another day, but this is the day we start anew. We make new goals. How long do most of us stick with those goals? Sadly, not very long. But this year can be different. Set a small goal. I’m going to try to have 365 days of thankfulness rather than just 30 days in November! Today I am thankful for pork and sauerkraut for New Year’s Day!
Pork and Sauerkraut
Which reminds me….my daughter asked me why we eat pork and sauerkraut on New Year’s. I told her to Google it! Of course, she didn’t, so I looked it up using my handy dandy swagbucks search just to see if I could earn some points 🙂 I didn’t, but I have been earning lots of points lately by having swagbucks tv on a lot. So anyway, I looked up why we eat pork and sauerkraut on New Year’s Day. Turns out it is a Pennsylvania Dutch tradition. Apparently if you eat it on New Year’s you will have a year filled with good luck. While we know all good things come from God and not luck, it still is yummy. I just make mine with a couple cans of kraut and about 1/3 c. of brown sugar and a little water in with a 5 lb. pork roast and cook it for about 4 hours at like 300 degrees. Happy eating!!
