Someone is dressed to kill in A Disguise to Die For, the debut Costume Shop Mystery from the national bestselling author of the Material Witness mysteries.

A Disguise to Die For

A Disguise to Die For

No sooner does former magician’s assistant Margo Tamblyn return home to Proper City, Nevada, to run Disguise DeLimit, the family-owned costume shop, than she gets her first big order. Wealthy nuisance Blitz Manners needs forty costumes for a detective-themed birthday bash. As for Blitz himself, his Sherlock Holmes is to-die-for—literally—when, in the middle of the festivities, Margo’s friend and party planner Ebony Welles is caught brandishing a bloody carving knife over a very dead Blitz.

For Margo, clearing Ebony’s name is anything but elementary, especially after Ebony flees town. Now Margo is left to play real-life detective in a town full of masked motives, cloaked secrets, and veiled vendettas. But as she soon learns, even a killer disguise can’t hide a murderer in plain sight for long.

FIRST IN A NEW SERIES!

My Review

If you are looking for a new cozy mystery series, look no further! Diane Vallere has a hit with A Disguise to Die For, and I’ve got high hopes for the future books in the Costume Shop Mystery series. Cozy mystery is one of my favorite genres, so I am so glad to find a series that is sure to be a hit! This first book definitely hits the mark.

Margo, her dad, Ebony, Tak, Kirby, Nancy….these are all characters that I can’t wait to read more about! They are very well-written, and I developed a quick love for them. Margo’s choices for her wardrobe are extremely interesting. It makes me wish I’d grown up in a costume shop! She is one of a kind! I love how she drops everything to help her dad out when he needs her.  The supporting characters in this book are all ones that I am sure you’ll grow to love if you are a cozy mystery book fan.

The costume party that Margo plans for Blitz Manners has a great theme. Margo provides costumes with the theme television and movie detectives. She’s got Columbo, 2 Nancy Drews, multiple Sherlocks…..the list goes on and on. But when Blitz is murdered at his own party, it becomes difficult to deduce the culprit as everyone was in disguise. Margo steps in and tries to find the real killer so her friend Ebony, who is like a mother to Margo, will be off the hook. With the help of her new friend, Tak, she solves the case and saves the day.

A Disguise to Die For is one that you need to add to your TBR piles! I highly recommend it!
