The Grimm Chronicles Vol. 1

If you love fairy tales, The Grimm Chronicles is for you!

200 years ago, the Brothers Grimm unleashed their stories upon the world. Literally. Now the characters of the Grimms’ stories walk among us. With every day that passes, they grow more evil. They are the Corrupted, and only a hero can stop them.

For 18-year-old Alice Goodenough, that means taking precious time off from her summer vacation. In addition to volunteering at the local library, Alice must stop the Corrupted who are now actively hunting her down. With the help of her magic pen and her trusty rabbit friend, the world has suddenly gotten a lot more complex. The Corrupted are everywhere, and only Alice can see them for what they truly are.

This book contains the first 3 episodes of the critically acclaimed series

Prince Charming Must Die!
Happily Never After
Revenge of the Castle Cats

My review

I am a huge fan of all things Grimm! I love fairy tales, and I loved watching Once Upon a Time, and Grimm on television.

The first story introduces us to Alice, a kick butt heroine who happens to have the ability to sense the corrupted, fairy tale characters in our land. She has no clue that she has this ability until Br’er Rabbit comes along to enlighten her. Imagine Alice’s shock! Not only is this huge rabbit talking to her (totally a Jimmy Stewart in Harvey moment!), but he tells her it’s her job to get rid of the corrupted….with a pen. But don’t worry, it is a special pen. And, yes, you’ll have to read the book to find out why it is special.

I love the characters in these stories! They are so well-thought out. The fairy tale characters are perfect and the “real life” characters seem like they could be your neighbors. The corrupted characters explored in these first three tales are Prince Charming, Cinderella, and some of the dwarves (who are now video game magnates…among other things).

Each story is unique, though they all build upon the one before it. The settings are believable, and you find yourself immersed in them. I love a book that makes you feel like you are watching it play out on a screen. This was very much like that.

I can’t wait to find out more about Alice’s adventures. And I want to see how the diary of a previous hero plays out. I’m not sure what all is going on in that part of the story.

If you are a fan of the Grimm Brothers’ stories, or just love adventure, The Grimm Chronicles will keep you entertained!

  • How great that there are other books for you to read. I haven't had a chance to read for several years (kids) but when I do, this is on my "to read" list as I like genres like this. Thanks for sharing.

    • Kids do take up so much of your free time :) But they are only little once and soon they'll be all independent!

  • This sounds really awesome. I don't get excited over a lot of books lately. I see a ton of book tours like this one all over and most of the time, the book sounds... not so interesting. This book, however, has totally piqued my interest. Alice having the ability to sense corruption? Yes please!

  • This sounds entertaining if nothing else. I think I might like to read at least one of these books to see how this author has tried to prove that Grimm fairy tales ARE really grim (and they are imo) and to soften them up a bit!

  • This sounds like an awesome book. I love the Grimm Brothers stories so I will put this on my TBR list.. Thank you for sharing..

  • I love the Grimm Brothers! This sounds like a great book! Thanks for the wonderful review!

  • We don't watch Grimm, but we do watch Once Upon a Time, so I think I would like this book. Thanks for the review and giveaway!
