From the Start by Melissa Tagg
Kate Walker used to believe in true love and happily ever after. While her own love life may have left her brokenhearted, it hasn’t kept her from churning out made-for-TV romance movie screenplays…until a major career slump and a longing to do something meaningful send her running back to her hometown of Maple Valley.
Permanently sidelined by an injury, former NFL quarterback Colton Greene is temporarily hiding out in a friend’s hometown to avoid the media and the reminders of all he’s lost. Maple Valley seems like the perfect place to learn how to adjust to normal life. The only trouble is he’s never really done normal before.
While Kate plays things safe and Colton is all about big risks and grand gestures, they both get what it’s like to desperately need direction in life. An unexpected project gives them both a chance to jump-start their new lives, but old wounds and new dreams are hard to ignore. Starting over wasn’t part of the plan, but could it be the best thing that’s ever happened to them?
My Review of From the Start by Melissa Tagg
From the Start is about Kate Walker, a romance writer who is having a slump in her career, and Colton Greene, a former NFL quarterback whose career has just ended due to injury. Both Kate and Colton are clueless as to where their futures are headed. Kate thinks her next step will be traveling to Africa to help out with her late mom’s foundation. Colton’s rep thinks Colton’s next step should be sportscasting. But what we plan is not necessarily what God has planned for us.
I absolutely adore this book! Its characters are so full of depth and life. Maple Valley, the setting for the book, is the perfect, quaint little town where everyone knows everyone and the high school football games are the highlight of fall nights. The local coffee shop is always hopping even though the proprietress is a bit of a grouch. The town members rally together when repairs need to be done after a tornado, and when the dam seems to be in danger of overflowing, they rally together again to sandbag it.
The way that God works in the lives of His people is so evident in From the Start. I love books that leave you feeling encouraged and inspired. I also love it when a book cracks me up while reading it. From the Start by Melissa Tagg fits the bill! You will love this book! I cannot wait to read about the next Walker sibling’s story.
