My Review

Watch the Shadows is a great YA book that will appeal to lovers of sci/fi suspense books. The synopsis really grabbed my attention. Nicole is great at science and loves the scientific process. It’s for this reason that she refuses to work in pairs for her high school science project. Who can blame her? It’s always the smart ones that end up doing all the work!

When her neighbor sees (or thinks she sees) a strange creature in her living room, Nicole scoops up some of the slime it has left behind. She takes the sample to her dad’s lab and begins her project. What happens next takes the reader on a wild adventure!

The characters in this book are interesting and make the story relatable as they could be any of us. The plot is fast-paced and is easy to get through very quickly. I like Mrs. Meg and Brian a lot. They seem to be the best developed characters in the story and though they sometimes act a little irresponsibly, it’s their flaws that make them interesting.

Once you finally see what is happening in the story, it becomes quite horrifying. You begin wondering if it could really happen! You start getting freaked out by common household items! 🙂 You’ll really like this story if you are into sci/fi fantasy. It’s got PG-13 language, so be advised. It fits with the story though.

Robin Winter first wrote and illustrated a manuscript on “Chickens and their Diseases” in second grade, continuing to both write and draw, ever since.

Robin was born in Nebraska, and she’s lived in a variety of places: Nigeria, New Hampshire, upper New York state and now, California. She pursues a career in oil painting under the name of Robin Gowen, specializing in landscape.
