The Yummy Adventures of Celia and Cedric: Amazing Apples is the first book in the A Read and Bake Series by mother-daughter team Laara Exsnar and Erin Kurt. This series helps children learn about healthy eating by showing them that foods that are good for you are also foods that are yummy!
I received a copy of the following book in order to facilitate an honest review which I’ve given. This post may contain affiliate links.
The Yummy Adventures of Celia and Cedric: Amazing Apples
Celia is a typical little girl who gets bored when there is nothing exciting to do. Her mom is doing the weeding…not fun for Celia! Her dad has to go to work, but he asks her to take a grocery brochure to the new neighbors since he is the local natural food market manager. Celia is happy to help, hoping that the new neighbors have kids she can play with. Here is where she meets Cedric and invites him to a healthy dinner.
When Cedric’s family comes for dinner, they bring a basket of apples to Celia’s family as a gift. Celia’s family laughs since they’ve made an apple cake for dessert. During the meal, the kids find out that apples are filled with things that keep their bodies healthy! This is something you can share with your children as well. There are also three yummy apple recipes included that you can make with your children.
Why are apples good for you?
- Apples are high in fiber and have natural sugars, vitamins and minerals for good energy.
- They contain the trace mineral Boron which is great for strong bones, building muscle and improving cognitive skills and muscle coordination.
- Apples provide Quercetin which helps boost the immune system.
You know the old saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away!” Well with all of those good for you things, it is no wonder! Apples are so good for you!
Laara Exsnar recently wrote two guests posts for me that you can read by going to these links: How to Transform your Picky Eater and 10 Super Hero Foods you Need to Give your Kids.

We love apples in our house. We pretty much always have them on hand because we all love to snack on them.
I love that they wrote these books! They're so specific in the topic that it gives kids a good starting point for eating healthy foods!
This is a great book for kids to read. My kids love just any kind of fruit and apple is one of their favorites.
They'd like this then! Be sure to grab the printables for them to do!
Apples are one of the few fruits that everyone in my family enjoys. And it's great that they're so good for you! This looks like a wonderful book for kids and would be perfect for a fall-themed unit for back-to-school or whenever.
It would fit right in! Apple themes themselves can take a full week of preschool!
This is a great kids' book, but I just learned something new also. I had no idea apples were good for my bones and my immune system.
Great! See, not just for kids! :)
Apples also help lower blood sugars. I love apples. They are my favorite fruit.
That is really good to know!
My little one loves green apples, they are a household favorite. She also loves a good story, she is only 3 so I do the reading but we love books with a lesson.
Awww! You should print her the coloring page!
I'll have to read this with my nephew, he's been super interested in fruits, veggies and nutrition lately.
He would love this then!
We love apples in our house and this book sounds like a great one for kids. My fave at the moment is Honeycrisp.
We love those too! I haven't been able to find them lately though. I guess it depends on the season.
That book looks so cute! I love apples raw and cooked. They're great in so many recipes.
I love homemade applesauce!
I absolutely love children's books that teach valuable life lessons. Certainly today, healthy eating is as important as any other. I'll check this out as a possible gift for my grandson.
Yes, it is and it's especially helpful if they don't like healthy eating to show them kids that do like it :)
