Solstice by Jane Redd (Heather Moore)
There are four ways to get Banished from the last surviving city on earth: 1. Cut out your emotion tracker, 2. Join a religious cult, 3. Create a rebellion against the Legislature, 4. Fall in love.
Jezebel James does all four.
Jez is on the fast-track to becoming a brilliant scientist, with one goal—save her city from total extinction. But the more Jez learns about the price of a fresh beginning, the more she realizes that carrying out the plan will lead to few survivors, and among the dead will be those she cares about the most.
My Review
I love this book! I really enjoy reading dystopian books, and this one sounded really great from the synopsis. I’ve also read books by Heather Moore and always love her writing. I really wanted to see how she wrote in this genre since all I’ve read of hers are romance. I was not disappointed!
Solstice starts off strong and keeps going without losing steam. The world has been devastated by rain. Flood waters cover so much of the world, that having land to live on is not guaranteed. People are given implants to track and control their emotions….emotions like love which are forbidden. Stick to the status quo, and you’ll be fine. Any deviation from the emotionless path can get you into big trouble which Jez finds out quickly. She’s always felt emotions, but she’s believed that sticking to the rules are for the common good. That is until things happen to make her question those beliefs.
If you are a fan of the Matched Trilogy, Divergent, or The Giver, you’ll love Solstice. The characters are so well-written, and the story is one that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!
