Cooking Up A Storm: Breakfast Ideas The Whole Family Will Love!

Healthy Living

Thanks for sharing!

It’s official: breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Studies have shown that children who eat a good sized breakfast are able to concentrate better in class and tend to behave better as well. So as a parent, it’s important that you’re giving your little ones a healthy and filling breakfast each and every morning. By doing this, you are setting them up for the day and helping them to get into the important habit of starting each day with a wholesome breakfast.

Breakfast Ideas The Whole Family Will Love

A lot of parents make cereal the breakfast staple for school days, simply because of how quick and easy it is. However, most cereals are packed full of sugar and do very little to keep kids full. With that in mind, below are some tips and ideas for healthy, wholesome breakfast ideas that the whole family will love. And best of all, they’re suitable for school mornings.

Waffles, honey and fresh fruit

Kids love waffles because they’re seen as being a treat food. Believe it or not, if you make the batter yourself, waffles can offer a healthy and filling breakfast for your little ones. They’re also fairly quick and easy to make since waffle irons do most of the work. If you’re going to make homemade waffles, it might be a good idea to make the batter the night before. A secret for making waffles more filling is to add ground oats to the batter – this simple trick will keep your kids full for a whole lot longer. The best things to top waffles with are honey and chopped fruit. Blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries are a good combination, as they tend to be popular with kids.

Eggs on toast

A breakfast staple that’s been around for years, eggs on toast is a fantastic school day breakfast. To make it easier to cook multiple eggs at one time, consider investing in an egg cooker. These can cook between four and eight eggs at one time and can be used to poach or boil. You simply drop the eggs into the mold, set the timer, and get on with whatever you need to be doing – making the toast perhaps? If you’re serving poached eggs, topping the toast with an avocado and tomato mix could be a great way to keep your kids full for longer. Plus, it means that they get one of their five a day with breakfast. To save time, you could always make the smashed avocado and chopped tomato mix up the night before.

Omelettes

Omelette

An omelette is a great breakfast because you can make one big omelette and split it into portions. All you need are some eggs, a little bit of milk, some salt and pepper, and a selection of toppings. Cheese is a must, bacon or ham works well, as do vegetables like onions and peppers. Of course, you can tailor what goes into your omelettes depending on what your kids like and dislike. You can start your omelette off on top of the stove and then you can pop it under the broiler to cook through. If you don’t already have a cast iron skillet, it’s worth investigating which the best cast iron skillets are since normal frying pans can burn under the broiler.

Homemade cereal bars and pancakes

For those mornings when time is an issue, homemade cereal bars and pancakes can be a godsend. While you could buy them ready made, most brands add a lot of sugar and fat to cereal bars and pancakes. Plus, they don’t tend to keep kids as full as homemade alternatives. Once a week, make up a batch of homemade cereal bars or pancakes. Then, on crazy mornings, you can give these to your little ones with a glass of milk for breakfast.

There are some great recipes online for healthy cereal bars and pancakes; it’s just a case of finding recipes that your children like. Fruity ones tend to be popular with kids, as they like the sweet taste. Instead of using dried fruit for this, opt to use baked fruit that’s had no sugar added to it. This will make your cereal bars or pancakes even healthier.

By giving your kids a healthy start to the day, you can help to make sure that they’re able to concentrate properly at school. If you give them cereals packed with sugar, the chances are they’ll struggle to focus in class. Hopefully, the ideas above have inspired you to get a little more creative with breakfast foods for your little ones.

My kids often ask for eggs on toast in the morning. I like that it’s quick and easy because they only have 15 minutes to eat before getting on the bus.

    Besos Sarah.
