Having a flawless, beautiful complexion is something most women dream of. Whether you’ve got acne scarring, pigmentation or simply want to hide the signs of aging, that perfect skin can sometimes seem a long way off. More and more people are now turning to extreme measures such as surgery or skin peels in their quest for a flawless face. However, the same look can replicated with the right makeup – less painful, and it often looks a lot more natural too. With the right tools at hand, being self-conscious about your skin can soon be a thing of the past.

Using a good face wash
We’ve all been told from a young age that we should take our makeup off at night. But it’s very easy to get complacent about this. Often, at the end of a long day, a lengthy cleansing and exfoliating routine is the last thing on our minds. Crawling into bed with Netflix seems like a much more viable option! But, getting any dirt and grime off your face that has built up during the day is vital for radiant skin.
If a full-on multiple product routine isn’t your style, you can still get the same effect with just a couple of products. First, use a cotton pad doused in micellar water to remove your makeup. Micellar water is made up of tiny oil molecules which attach themselves to dirt, thus dragging it off of your face. It is also much more gentle on your skin than face wipes or alcohol-based makeup removers. Then, wash your face and neck with a gentle foaming cleanser to leave your skin feeling soft and glowy. You will notice a difference in the feel of your skin almost immediately.
Primer and foundation
Primer is still a relatively new addition to most people’s makeup bags, but it is an important one nonetheless. I love using primer because it definitely helps my makeup last! It is generally a cream or a gel that is rubbed into the skin before applying concealer or foundation. The main purpose of this product is to minimize the appearance of pores, reduce oil production and keep your makeup put for longer. You should find that when you apply your foundation after using primer, that it goes on much more easily than if you didn’t apply primer.
When it comes to foundation itself, the days of rubbing it into our skin haphazardly with our fingers are long gone. These days, most people find that using a foundation brush or a beauty blender offers much better results. Finishing this part of your makeup routine with a highlighter, such as one from Senna Cosmetics, give you a dewy, glowing look.
Blush
When used correctly, blusher and bronzer can greatly enhance your natural skin pigmentation. After all, no one’s skin is the same color all over. Using a foundation, especially a matte one, and then not using any blush can give you a plastic, doll-like appearance. Not ideal if you’re trying to be as natural as possible! There are now plenty of different blushes on the market, from classic powder blushes to cream and even liquid options. If you’re feeling adventurous, consider investing in a number of different shades of bronzer which will allow you to contour your face.
