Household Cleaning Tips For Tired & Stressed Out New Moms

Children· Family

Thanks for sharing!

Being a new mom is hard work. It’s not just a case of feeding and changing your little one; there’s a lot more to those first few weeks of motherhood than meets the eye. When you combine a screaming baby with a lack of sleep and pretty much no time to yourself, it’s easy to see why life is so stressful for new moms. To top it off, for those first few weeks, you spend most of your time at home, stuck inside. That’s how I was with Molly! I had a c-section and was sore for weeks! I had no idea what to do with this tiny new baby!

Thank goodness for my mom who took care of me AND my house! If your home is in a mess it can make you feel even more stressed out. A lot of new moms struggle to keep their homes clean and tidy in the first weeks after their little one is born. Looking after your new addition and keeping your home clean doesn’t have to be a major struggle. It’s just a case of being smart about how you go about it; that’s all.

Read on to find out how to make keeping your home clean and tidy while coping with a newborn a little bit easier.

Have a cleaning schedule in place

The most important thing is to put a cleaning schedule in place. This is crucial as it will allow you to split your household chores over the course of the week, making them easier to stay on top of. For instance, on Mondays and Wednesdays, you could do the laundry. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, you could vacuum and scrub the floors. On Fridays, you could clean the bathroom, and on the weekend you could catch up with anything else that needs done, like changing the sheets. By having a cleaning schedule in place, you’ll find it much easier to keep your home clean and tidy, even with a little one to take care of.

Invest in all the best equipment and products

To make cleaning your home easier, you need to invest in all of the best equipment and products. For instance, for cleaning your floors, surfaces, furniture, and for refreshing carpets, a steam cleaner is a must. The great thing about steam cleaners is that they only require water, no detergent and kill 99 percent of germs. They’re incredibly quick and easy to use and much less messy than using a mop and bucket. A quality vacuum cleaner is also a must. Ideally, you want to select a make and model that has high suction and uses vacuum bags that are able to collect even the smallest of dirt particles. That way, it’s much easier to keep your floors clean.

Clean as and when you make a mess

Last but not least, to make it easier to keep on top of the cleaning, aim to clear up as you go. This may not always be possible, but when you have the time, clean up any mess that you’ve made. That way it won’t all pile up and will be much easier to deal with. If you can’t clean up a mess when you make it because of your newborn, wait until it’s their naptime and then clean it up.

It might seem impossible to keep on top of your household chores when you’ve got a newborn, but it doesn’t have to be. If you take note of the tips and suggestions above, you can make keeping your home clean and tidy a little bit easier.

As you know, I had three little babies to look after at one time so cleaning was not a priority for me. I found (and still do it to this day) that cleaning up as I go really works to keep my house clean(ish) and doesn’t take much time.

    Besos Sarah.
