Keep Holding On

Beckett Walker hasn’t stepped foot in Maple Valley in years. There’s no getting past the painful memories, and there’s every chance he’ll be arrested as soon as he shows his face. Which is exactly what happens when he finally returns. Suddenly his dream of adventure as a military lawyer comes skidding to a halt.

Horticulturist Kit Danby has spent too much time missing home and her childhood best friend–Beckett Walker. Now she might have a shot at reclaiming both. After years of living abroad, she returns to run her family’s apple orchard. She has one season to turn a profit and impress the father she barely knows. But she can’t do it alone.

It should be simple: Beckett needs community service hours. Kit needs a helping hand. But there’s more at stake than either of them planned. With a tangled past and futures that look nothing alike, they’ll have to find a way to weather the storms of the present . . . or risk losing everything.

My Review

Oh, how I love Maple Valley and the Walker family! Melissa Tagg has done it again with this third book in the Walker Family series, Keep Holding On. Have you read Anne of Green Gables? Well, Melissa is a kindred spirit to me. Like I am, Melissa is a HUGE Gilmore Girls fan. Maple Valley feels a lot like Stars Hollow, and the mayor is a lot like Taylor Doose. If you have no idea what I’m talking about….sigh….I feel sad for you. Go and watch Gilmore Girls. You can thank me later.

Keep Holding On is Beckett Walker’s story. He’s the wild one in the family, and he hasn’t been home for six years. I love Beckett! He is impulsive and indecisive, yet he is also thoughtful and determined. He’s a little bit of a tortured soul too. He left home shortly after his mom’s death…and right after he stopped his best friend Kit’s wedding. It’s a little fitting that he should come back during his cousin’s wedding which he also sort of breaks up by being arrested for wrecking Kit’s fiance’s parents’ car six years ago. Yeah, it’s kind of a long story….

Breaking up Kit’s wedding wasn’t a mistake. He knew Kit didn’t want to get married, but she wasn’t brave enough to stop herself from making a huge mistake. Of course, Beckett’s been pretty much in love with Kit since they were eleven, so he knew her real heart. Confessing his love that night, though, probably wasn’t the best timing…which leads to the car-wrecking, escaping Maple Valley, “lawyering”, and eventually getting arrested thing. Keep up, will you?

When he comes back and gets arrested, Kit just happens to be in town and just happens to be thinking of (dreaming of, longing to) take over the family orchard. And Beckett needs community service hours now….you see where this is leading. Kit and Beckett rekindle their friendship, and that’s all it can be since Beckett wants to apply for JAG. However, the best laid plans of mice and men….

These characters will ALL get into your heart. Though you don’t have to read these in order, I think you should. The story will flow better for you, and you’ll understand who the supporting characters are. You’ll leave Maple Valley with a longing to return after each of the Walker family stories. They’re full of faith and love. If you are a fan of inspirational romcom, you have to read Melissa Tagg’s Keep Holding On!
