Dogs are man’s best friends and one of the most popular pets worldwide. They are loyal and reliable and a great addition to any household. While getting a dog needs to be considered and prepared for carefully, they can really enhance your life. But did you know that certain dogs have done some pretty incredible things? Check out the article below to find out more.
Reading
You don’t believe that dogs can read? Ok, you are right, but they can help others read. Did you know that there is a reading dog program where specially trained pups are sent to schools and kids get to read to them? This is a lot less intimidating for a child, as the dogs are both cute and non judgemental so it can help them gain their confidence when reading out loud. I love this program and our local library has it! Check yours to see if they do as well.
There are also plenty of dogs that go to hospitals and visit the sick too. This is thought to help those in the hospital with their mood, overall recovery and quality of life.
Hiking
Everyone know that dogs like to walk and run, But were you aware that they enjoy hiking too? The challenging terrain can be great for dogs fitness and to help them from getting bored. Although if they are walking over rough ground for a long stretch of time, they can need Dog Hiking Boots to protect their pads from getting sore. Just think you’re wouldn’t want to do a hike in bare feet either would you?
Counting
There is actually scientific evidence that dogs can count. Ok, you might not want to give them your math homework, and they are probably not so great at quadratic equations. If you are a dog owner, you probably know this anyway. It’s a given that they always know if you have three treats in your hand and only give them two!
Fall In Love
Surprisingly, dogs can form bonds similar to falling in love as well. Once the bonds have been made, then separating two doggie sweethearts can cause a lot of distress for the pups. They can go stop eating, cry, and whine and generally struggle without their puppy love.
Smell Illness
Another amazing thing that dogs can do is that they can smell illness. They have such an advanced sense of smell that they can pick out human illnesses, even on people that have not yet been diagnosed. It makes sense really, as canines have often been used to track the scent of a missing person or detect drugs in luggage in airports.
Cool Down With Just One Organ
One of the most incredible things about our canine counterparts is that they don’t actually have any sweat glands on their body. That means they just use their tongue to cool down. That is why you will often see them panting with their tongue hanging out. When they do this, it is a good indicator for us, their owners that they need to rest and cool off. It should act as a trigger for us to provide them with some fresh, clean water to drink too.
