It’s time to roll up your sleeves and get your kids (and you!) ready for the new school year. It might look easy to get everything in order, but trust me, switching your child’s mood from summer break to back to school can be a challenging task. Almost all kids feel hesitant to go to a new place and meet people they have never seen before. What should parents do in this situation? Use these ideas to get your child ready for back-to-school.
Tip #1: Host farewell party
Before you become too busy managing school activities, it’s fun to host a farewell party. You can plan something great for your family and friends. It is an excellent way to commemorate the end of summer. It will not just change the mindset of your kids but also grant them an opportunity to celebrate the season ending with one last “hurrah” before they turn the page and start a fresh school year.
Tip #2: Shopping
Clean your child’s study area in their room. Look for old but still usable items in their room, and make a list of new items that need to be bought. That’s the first thing I think about for school supplies shopping. Make sure to take your children along to the store because it allows them to pick their favorite items and gets them excited about heading back to school.
Tip #3: Make a schedule
Routine matters a lot! However,that doesn’t mean that you have to wake the kids up early in the morning right now. Everything takes time, and so does getting back into the habit of getting up early. The transition from sleeping in and carefree days of summer to the rigorous school morning schedule shouldn’t be rushed. Make it gradual by getting them up a bit earlier each day.
Tip #4: Maintain regularity
Consistency is the key. No matter what you do, maintaining consistency is always going to help you. Start with some basics such as going to bed on time, waking up early, eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner at a fixed time, etc. Regulating the whole family’s inner clock may help ease the transition difficulties for both your kids and you!
Tip #5: Complete the essentials first
Sometimes trivial tasks occupy too much space in our mind and make us forget the important ones. Ensure that immunizations and annual checkups are done, the school forms are signed, other relevant documents are filled, etc.
Tip #6: Select clothes for the first day
What should my kid wear on the first day of the school? It depends on their age. If they are teens, of course they’re going to wear what they want. If they are still little, you’ll have a lot of input into what they’ll be wearing. I love Gymboree for back-to-school sales! The beginning of the school year is always hot! Dresses and shorts outfits work great for those days.
Talk with your child and ask them for input, but don’t give them too many options. That will just get overwhelming. Planning ahead saves lots of time in the morning.
Tip #7: Focus on the present
Back-to-school might be both scary and exciting to parents and students. As a parent, you have lots of activities to plan for the future such as helping your child in the homework, finding a reliable private tutor (click here to find out more), attending parent-teacher conferences, etc. These responsibilities might make you feel overwhelmed. Just focus on the present, and things will fall into place with careful planning.
