Lady Bird

Lady Bird, the Oscar® nominated (Best Picture, Best Directing, Best Actress (Saoirse Ronan), Best Supporting Actress (Laurie Metcalf), Best Original Screenplay, 2017) coming of age comedy from Lionsgate is now available on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack (plus DVD and Digital) and DVD.

In Lady Bird, which marks Greta Gerwig’s directorial debut, Gerwig reveals herself to be a bold new cinematic voice, excavating both the humor and pathos in the turbulent bond between a mother and her teenage daughter. Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson fights against, but is exactly like, her wildly loving, deeply opinionated and strong-willed mom, a nurse working tirelessly to keep her family afloat after Lady Bird’s father loses his job. Set in Sacramento, California, in 2002, amidst a rapidly shifting American economic landscape, Lady Bird is an affecting look at the relationships that shape us, the beliefs that define us, and the unmatched beauty of a place called home.

Lady Bird is real

I remember seeing previews for Lady Bird and thinking how good it looked. The previews didn’t fail me. Lady Bird is wonderful. This coming of age story really captured my heart. I felt like I was watching real life unfold in front of my eyes. It captivated me right from the beginning. Lady Bird and her mom are in the car having a wonderful moment, when all of the sudden the wonderful moment goes south, and Lady Bird ends up jumping out of the car. It’s hilarious. The whole movie goes on like this. Wonderful moments of that mother daughter bond interspersed with crazy moments of real life.

When you are a mom, you love with a fierce love. The mother daughter relationship is so wild. I remember when my daughter was born I almost felt like she WAS me. It’s always a little shocking to find out that your daughter IS so much like you, but she has her own opinions. You can see so much of her in you, that you think she should do exactly what you think she should. When she doesn’t, it’s like a personal affront.

This is a movie I will watch multiple times. It is heartwarming, funny, and relatable. Greta Gerwig captured this “year in a life” perfectly. Though it’s fiction, it’s fact. You’ll love it!
