Synopsis

In The House With a Clock in its Walls, Lewis Barnavelt goes to live with his Uncle Jonathan in a creaky and creepy mansion with an eerie tick-tocking heart. When Lewis soon finds out he’s in the presence of magic practiced by his uncle and neighbor Mrs. Zimmerman, his new town’s dreary aura boosts to life in an exciting and dangerous way.

The House With A Clock In Its Walls Movie Review

I remember seeing the trailer for The House With a Clock in its Walls and thinking, “That looks really good. I’m going to have to see it!” It WAS really good, and if you haven’t seen it yet, now is your chance! You can watch The House With a Clock in its Walls at home over and over again!

I love this cast! Jack Black is funny in pretty much everything. I’m one of those few that think Nacho Libre is one of the best movies and can pretty much quote the entire thing. Of course, Cate Blanchett is amazing as well. I loved getting to see her in some action scenes like she had in Thor: Ragnarok. I’m not sure if she did her own stunts in this one, but she can sure kick some booty! Owen Vaccaro is wonderful as Lewis. He is so convincing in the scenes where he talks about missing his mom. I’ve loved Kyle McLaughlin since Twin Peaks, so it was great seeing him in The House With a Clock in its Walls.

Even though I haven’t read the book, I think they did a great job of bringing the story to life. The sets and atmosphere lend so much to the movie’s feel. I definitely think it is too scary for little ones. The animatrons are super creepy, and it’s just too intense for them. I also think it was a little long, and some of the scenes could have been cut short or left out altogether.

Knowing that Eric Kripke wrote the screenplay made me really listen to the dialog, and there are definitely some Supernatural-type humorous moments. The banter between Uncle Jonathan and Mrs. Zimmerman is reminiscent of the banter on Supernatural.

I really think you’ll enjoy this movie if you’re a fan of magical movies. But remember, if you’ve got little ones, watch it before you let them see it. You can decide whether or not they can handle it.
