How to Make Sure Your Dog Gets a Good Night’s Rest

When you get a dog, you want what’s best for them. These loyal companions are entirely reliant on you to provide them with a good quality of life, so it’s your responsibility to make sure they are safe and comfortable at all times. One major aspect of your dog’s life is sleep. Dogs sleep a whole lot more than people, so your pooch will spend many hours catching some z’s. An adult dog will generally spend a whopping 12 to 14 hours of each day and night asleep. So, how can you make sure they’re getting good quality sleep? Here are a few tips and tricks that will give you a well rested dog!

Make Sure Your Dog Gets Enough Rest

Shelter

It’s highly recommended that you let your dog sleep inside your home. However, if you must have your dog outdoors at any time, make sure they have a high quality dog house that is well insulated and protects your pet from the rain and other elements. You can learn more at petsgetthebest.com. If you do invest in a kennel, make sure to do regular checks on it to make sure that it remains safe and comfortable for your pet to rest inside!

Bedding

Dogs should have a set space where they can sleep. This space should be their own, and you shouldn’t disturb them while they are in it unless absolutely necessary. Invest in bedding to put in this space. There are plenty of different styles of bedding out there and what your dog prefers will fall entirely down to your pet. The one thing that’s important when it comes to bedding for your dog is to ensure that it’s big enough. Larger dogs need larger beds to spread out on. For particularly large dogs, many people prefer huge cushion beds that they can kick back and relax on.

Be Sure Your Dog is Getting Sufficient Exercise

Every dog needs exercise – no matter how small. If you’re unsure how much exercise your pet needs, simply do a little online research or ask your vet. This will ensure you can take your dog out enough and use up some of their energy. Having sufficient exercise will ensure that your dog isn’t overexcited and that they are ready to sleep when it is time to sleep. If you don’t have enough time or energy to walk your dog yourself, you will have to make sure someone else walks your dog for you or reconsider your decision to have one.

See a Vet

If you are concerned about your pooch’s sleeping pattern, remember you can always seek help from a vet. They’ll be able to do a full examination of your pet and either put worries to rest or diagnose issues if your dog does have some sort of problem.

These are just a few pieces of advice about your dog and their sleep. Remember, sleep is just as important for dogs as people and it’s genuinely important your four legged friend gets enough!
