Do you work from home? It’s easy to get distracted, isn’t it? If you want to work from home more efficiently and productively, there are several ways that you can do this. Take a look below to see how you could make a positive change in a very short amount of time.
Maintain regular working hours
It’s so important that you set a schedule and that you stick to it. Having clear guidelines that will help you to know when to work and when to stop will help you to maintain a good work-home balance. If you extend your day to accommodate another time zone or if you get up early just so you can meet the deadlines you have set, this will cause you a great deal of stress. It also makes it much harder for you to maintain a solid schedule.
Have a morning routine
What morning routines do you have? Do you like to make a cup of coffee in the morning? Maybe you like to start work in your pajamas and then get changed later. Either way, you need to have a morning routine that ultimately ends with you starting work. If you don’t, then you may find that you end up having to adjust everything. This is the last thing that you need.
Set ground rules
You have to set ground rules for the people in your home, or for the people who you share your space with. Many people who work from home are parents. Many times kids come home from school while you are still working. You may need to have an after school babysitter if your kids are young. Middle school kids and older should be able to leave you alone until you are done.
If you have a dog that needs to be walked during, then arrange your schedule so your breaks accommodate them. You shouldn’t feel badly about any of this. In fact, ground rules like these could be what you need to do in order to work more efficiently.
Have a separate work number
Another thing that you need to do is have separate work and home numbers. This will stop you from being wrapped up with your phone all the time when you are supposed to be enjoying time with your family. If you want to help yourself, then it may be a good idea for you to set up an affordable mailing address as well. That way you have a professional front for your business.
Schedule breaks
When you work for a company, you get to take breaks. Furthermore, you know how long you can take them for. When you work for yourself, you may find it hard to decide when to take time off. At times, you may not even take breaks at all. This is understandable, but if you are not careful. You may end up running yourself into the ground, and this is the last thing that you need when you are trying to build your business. If you want to get around this, set regular breaks and stick with them, regardless of what’s happening at work.
Incorporate these at home work habits, and you will find you’re able to work more productively and efficiently.
