Come Homicide or High Water is the third book in the Welcome Back to Scumble River series. However, if you’ve been reading cozy mystery books for a long time, you may have read the Scumble River series which contained 20 books! I was unfamiliar with that series, but I quickly fell in love with the characters when I read Dead in the Water Book 1 in this Welcome Back series.

There’s something fishy just below the surface of Scumble River…
School psychologist Skye Denison-Boyd is getting ready to return to work from her maternity leave and hoping for a peaceful year in her job as a school psychologist. But when an elderly woman disappears on her first day back and a disgruntled parent threatens to sue the school, Skye realizes that her return will be anything but quiet.
When the parent suing Skye’s school is found dead and with the missing woman’s case is still unsolved, Skye suspects the crimes are somehow linked. With her chief of police husband, Wally, at her side, Skye dives into the investigations. But as tensions rise and Skye and Wally’s suspect list lengthens, they start to wonder whether a member of their own tight-knit community could be behind it all…
My review of Come Homicide or High Water
Come Homicide or High Water is such a great book. Like I said earlier, this was the third book I’ve read about Scumble River. This town already feels like home. Wally and Skye have been living in an RV with their twins since the tornado in book one. Needless to say, they can’t wait for their new home to be finished, so when their contractor keeps showing up late, Skye and Wally aren’t too happy about it.
Skye isn’t too happy about how a disgruntled parent is treated by a certain grumpy principal. When it turns out that that disgruntled parent is murdered, that principal becomes a suspect…at least in Skye’s eyes. Several other suspects pile up in regards to the murder and the missing woman that Wally’s been looking for.
I think that cozy mystery readers will love Scumble River and its characters. Skye and Wally are such great main characters, and I love how they are together. I love the quirky characters in the series as well as the town. The way the clues always fall together in these books make them fun to read too. That’s one of the big draws about cozy mysteries…solving the crimes! I like that we’re kept guessing throughout the books until near the very end.
I definitely recommend this book as well as the others to all of you mystery lovers.
