When we’re looking to buy a house we hear so much about the fact that it’s one of the most stressful things that we could ever do. And once we’ve gone through the lawyers and the mortgage company and we have finally got those keys, now is when the hard work begins. This means that there could be various sorts of stress involved that we didn’t even consider. Moving house is always stressful whether you’ve done it once or 100 times, but let’s try to get some order in place so you don’t have to panic while packing!
Choose A Removal Firm As Soon As Possible
You might find it hard to book a moving date, especially when there’s so many things to do. But the most important thing that you can do is find a moving company as soon as possible by planning in advance. Remember, most people try to move home at the weekend or during school holidays. When it’s possible, try to do it away from peak times. And while it may seem easy to pick a removals firm, you’ve got to make sure that you choose professionals that will look after your items and minimize damage to the property. You may very well have to pay a little bit more than you intended but you’ve got to do your research. When it’s possible, ask around and look for referrals.
Make A List
And then make another one! One of the main reasons we get stressed is because we physically can’t hold everything in our heads. It could benefit you to be incredibly organized and set up a spreadsheet. The first thing you need to do is make a list of everything and give consideration to your timeline. One of the big problems we all make is leaving it too late. As soon as you’ve got a moving in date it’s time to pounce! By setting up a timeline between now and the moving date you are able to spread the duties without feeling that everything is a last-minute panic!
Declutter The Property
It’s important where possible to have a week overlapping between properties. One of the main mistakes people make is they try to move everything out in one day in an attempt to save money. If you can set up a week between properties, you can start to move things in but also declutter the property. If you book the removals team on the last day of that week you may find yourself rushing back to clean the property. Instead, if you can declutter the property you are leaving, not only will there be fewer items to move but you can operate at a fairly leisurely pace.
Pack A Survival Kit
Moving day is incredibly stressful. Think about the things that will get you through the day such as snacks, water, and phone chargers. It’s very easy to forget to eat and drink during the day itself which means that you could feel pretty rough the next morning!
It’s very stressful but as long as you are organized and understand the entire process it will be as stress-free as possible.
