Cozy Mystery
6th in Series
Publisher: Kensington (January 28, 2020)
Mass Market Paperback: 288 pages
Cat Latimer and her writer’s retreat group go on a hiking trip—but a murderer has been lurking off the beaten path . . .
Cat’s sweetheart, Seth, is going all out on an outing into the local mountains—for the benefit of the writing group Cat’s hosting at her Colorado B&B. But when they try to identify some plant and animal life, they find death instead. The body belongs to a man with a gold claim a few miles away. Instead of striking it rich, he’s been struck down.
To his surprise, Seth recognizes the victim from his military days—and up to now believed he’d already died during his last tour of duty. Now Cat has to solve this mystery before the killer takes a hike…
Character Interview
Thanks, Seth Howard, for sharing with my readers.
Good morning readers. I’m Seth Howard, and I’m Aspen Hill’s Handyman. Yes, that’s my title, and I have a business card to prove it. I’m also dating our town’s resident author, Cat Latimer. It’s strange to call her by the married/author name because I knew her as Cat Edmonds all through school.
Yep, you guessed it, we were high school sweethearts. And, I thought, we’d be together forever. I went off to the army after high school. Cat went to college. She always had a dream to be a professor. I guess living in a college town gives you something to aspire to become besides business management. I wasn’t that great in school, but Cat? She was top of our class.
Our first fight came when I was coming back from my Germany posting. Washington was my next posting and I thought Cat could get into her graduate program there and we could finally start this life together we’d always talked about.
She, and her mentor, had other plans. She wanted to get her MFA at Covington. It only made sense, in her mind. She didn’t have to impress more people, she had an in for a non-tenured professorship after she graduated. I didn’t realize that fight would break us up. I’d already bought the ring and everything.
All good things must end, I guess. So I stayed in the military until Cat left town after divorcing the professor who’d talked her into staying. She landed on her feet as she always does, and got a teaching job in California. And her career as an author took off. When the ex-husband died (and don’t look at me for that – I have an iron clad alibi), she came home. I didn’t realize who I was remodeling his old house for until she walked onto the property one day.
It was like the world stopped. I know, too mushy, but I swear, Cat Edmonds, I mean, Latimer, was the only girl I’d ever loved. And my heart started beating again that day.
Enough of the mushy stuff. If you want to know about the rest of the story, you can read about it in A FIELD GUIDE TO HOMICIDE. I think all the details are there.
Peace out,
Seth
