When a black cat crosses Alice Adelcraft’s path, her luck changes, as does her worldview, especially when she stumbles into A Witch’s Thrift Shop. The merchandise is mysterious, the customers are curious, and the sign on the door reads: Shoplifters will be hexed. It might all be a joke, but the body of a witch outside proves someone was dead serious. Can Alice discover who killed the witch before the magical community discovers she isn’t one of them?

Guest post from the author

Thank you, Astoria, for providing us with a look at Magic Row! I would love to visit this magical place too!

Welcome to Magic Row

Magic is everywhere, often where you least expect it.

In my new series, the main character, Alice Adelcraft, discovers an entire community just around the corner from the antique store where she has worked since high school. She’s now 28, and all that time, as she’s been wishing for more captivating surroundings, Alice has been inches away from a whole new world.

What is this hidden road she’s stumbled into while following a black cat on a rainy morning?

The street sign reads: Magic Row.

It’s a place where witches, wizards, and creatures of the night drink root tea at Café Magic and chat about their latest finds from A Witch’s Thrift Shop.

This row of magical shops is veiled by a hex – a cat named Hex, that is. It’s Hex’s job to keep this place concealed from visitors who are not part of the magical community, so why has she led Alice here?

Other than the body behind the Many Treasures’ dumpster, Alice isn’t sure how anything here relates to her. Aside from reporting the body, solving the mystery, and trying not to let on that she isn’t a witch (since that would mean facing a forgetting spell that might give her dementia) Alice is spending her free time exploring Magic Row.

Next door to Many Treasures is Reading & Co., a bookstore offering enchanting texts and future readings by those talented in seeing the future. Once she’s had her palm read or a crystal ball reading, she could relax with a fairy dust-spiced latté from Café Magic or a meal from Ambrosia Restaurant. And if she found any of the spell-laced foods enticing, she could buy these items from Merlin’s grocery store.

Alice finds all of this fascinating, but it’s the stores across the street that really capture her imagination. Not only is there a Spellbinders repair shop, and a store called The Essential Mage, selling items every modern mage needs, mainly potions, pentacles, and other ingredients used in witchcraft, but there’s also a magical pet shop called Familiars. Best of all, right across from Many Treasures lies A Witch’s Thrift Shop.

Owned by a kind witch named Celeste, it’s the only thrift shop exclusive to the magical community in the area. One witch’s worn out wand is another’s treasured talisman, that’s how Celeste sees it. She has a knack for seeing the potential in everything – and that includes Alice. She may not be a witch, but as Celeste tells her, Hex would not have let Alice onto this street if she wasn’t meant to be here. Hex always has her reasons.

One might be the genie that has found its way into Alice’s life, but that’s a whole other side to the story. Suffice it to say, Alice Adelcraft is uncovering secrets and capturing culprits with the help of newfound friends. In the process, she just might find a place to belong in this magical community.

I hope you’ll join Alice in exploring the mysteries in Magic Row. A Witch’s Thrift Shop Mystery series book 1, Mysterious Merchandise, is out now.
