Fashionable Face Mask Alternatives

Lifestyle

Thanks for sharing!

With face masks becoming compulsory across a number of communities, unfortunately not everyone is completely onboard. Whether it’s because they’re uncomfortable, issues with fogged up glasses or simply because of their political views, many are searching for a face mask alternative.

5 fashionable face mask alternatives

If you’re after something outside of the traditional face mask realm, then why not go to these guys. Each of the 5 fashionable face mask alternatives below can be found on the Hoo-Rag site.

1. Bandanas

A bandana is a piece of cloth that’s been folded into either a triangle or square. Then, it’s tied around your face, forehead or neck.

Sometimes referred to as a kerchief (like a larger handkerchief), they have both decorative and highly functional, protective roles.

Wearing a bandana as a face mask alternative has certainly become more popular during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The major advantage of using a bandana as a face mask is their highly versatile nature. This allows for a more comfortable fit when worn over the face.

2. Headbands

A headband is another piece of thin cloth, worn around the top of your forehead.

Their primary role is to keep hair out of your eyes and face. However, it can fill a variety of roles including acting as an alternative to a face mask.

By simply pulling down the headband from your forehead to cover your nose and mouth, you can get away with it in most mask-mandatory premises.

While this face mask alternative can be a little unhygienic if you’re using it as both a sweatband and then a face covering, it can certainly keep you covered in emergencies.

3. Scarves

Scarves are made from a wide range of materials and fabrics, but primarily worn around your neck to stay warm.

Depending on your climate and the role you intend the particular scarf to fill, there are a number of material options, including:

  • Wool
  • Cotton
  • Linen

To transition your scarf to a face mask alternative, all you need to do is take each end of the scarf, tighten it against your face, then tie it off behind your head.

4. Balaclavas

A balaclava is a form of full face covering headgear, that both keeps you warm and conceals your identity.

If you’re going to use a balaclava as a face mask alternative, we recommend only wearing them outside and not inside stores or public places.

Usually only allowing slots for your mouth and eyes, wearing a balaclava may get you in trouble if you plan on doing your banking that day…

While this somewhat takes away from their functionality, they still offer unrivaled protection from the harsh elements when used outdoors.

5. Neck Gaiters

The 5th and final face mask alternative on our featured list, is a neck gaiter.

Neck gaiters, otherwise known simply as neck warmers, are a specific item of clothing designed to cover the neck.

People often wear them for warmth. However, we wear them more recently to protect ourselves and others around you from COVID-19 in public places. Neck gaiters are a versatile and simple face mask alternative.

As continues to be proven, any type of face covering offers more protection than wearing nothing at all. Therefore, make the smart choice and use any of the face mask alternatives featured on this list.
