Hayden fell through a mirror and was thrust into an alternate, magical place. Destiny Falls is home to a family she never knew she had. The town is enchanted and charming, but something is amiss. Then someone turns up dead, and there are too many other suspicious episodes to call them coincidences. All signs point to the mysterious disappearance of her mother – way back when Hayden was just two days old. Can she identify and eliminate the threat before another person in her life is stolen away?

The Disappearance of Emily Book Review

The Disappearance of Emily is a spellbinding follow up to Falling Into Magic. If you haven’t read the first book yet, I highly recommend reading it before you read this one! You won’t know what’s going on, and that’s just no fun.

The Destiny Falls series takes place in a magical land that this imaginative author brings to life. Hayden has been trapped in this land since falling through a mirror weeks ago. However, her family at home isn’t worried about her. They think she’s abroad writing for the online magazine she and her friend run. And though Hayden is technically trapped, she’s surrounded by her loving family whom she never met. In fact, she didn’t even know that most of them even existed!

You will absolutely fall in love with Destiny Falls. Yes, it’s got its flaws and fair share of crime like any non-magical place, but it is mainly a beautiful and enchanted place. You never know what you’re going to get when you walk into a store or the library in town. It might even be raining or snowing inside! I don’t want to spoil the magic for you, so that’s all I’ll say about the town.

I absolutely love Hayden and her family (and friends). They’re very well-written, and you can’t help but develop a connection with them. Hayden grows closer to her family throughout the book. She’s surprised when her grandmother gives her a job as the new editor of Destiny Falls’s newspaper. Hayden is excited to get the now online paper up and running. She’s even more excited to figure out why someone was murdered and why they sent her a big box of random papers prior to their murder…and what it has to do with Emily (Hayden’s long missing mom).

Though the murder is solved, there are still many more questions to be answered, and I can’t wait to find out what happens next in this series.

The Disappearance of Emily is a clean cozy mystery filled with magic and mystery. You will be enchanted with the wonderful, sometimes mysterious characters. And, most of all, you’ll be swept away by the mesmerizing town of Destiny Falls.

Character Interview

An interview with the Witch from The Disappearance of Emily, Destiny Falls Mystery & Magic, book 2.

Hello. Can you introduce yourself and your book to us please?

I’m the Witch. No other name is necessary, as I’m the only witch around. As far as the people of Destiny Falls know, I’m the only one, but they are so naïve sometimes. If you think about it, I should be the main character of the Destiny Falls Mystery & Magic book series, not that Hayden Caldwell. After all, I’m all about mystery and I’m one of the few with actual magic in Destiny Falls.

Sadly, I am confined to a secret cave up in the mountains, so I’m only on the fringe of the excitement. The Disappearance of Emily includes the story of one of my attempts at escape, but as usual, my story is not the main plot. Maybe one of these books…

You mention Hayden Caldwell, but it sounds like you don’t like her.

Ah, she is of no interest to me to say whether I like her or not. She’s just a means to an end. After all, she has no idea that I even exist. She’s just heard rumors and stories, and I’m not sure that she even believes those. I bet if you wrote a story about me in that People Magazine then she’d listen. She does like those gossip magazines, you know. Oh, excuse me. The minions are here for my shopping list – I think I’ll add a few magazines to this order.

If you’re confined to a cave, how do you have a part in the story?

It’s so easy to convince humans with lesser morals to do your bidding if you promise them magical rewards. The problem is that I seem to keep picking a bunch of nincompoops to do my leg work. It’s frustrating and tiring, but since it’s my only option I”ll do what I must until I’m successful in my efforts.

You said you have magical powers. Can you tell us about those?

Oh, fiddlesticks, that’s the problem, you see. While I’m captive in this cave my powers are inconsistent and wonky. Sometimes they work, but only small spells and even then, they don’t always turn out right. So, I have to rely on human-made magic, like my Ring doorbell or my Wi-Fi booster. It’s humiliating, to be honest.

I understand the author, Elizabeth Pantley loves happy endings. Do you have a happy ending in this book?

Well, no! She uses me to help create happy endings for other characters! And that’s not very fair, I tell you. Everyone else gets resolutions to their dilemmas and happy discoveries. Someone needs to let the author know that even an exiled witch deserves happiness. Maybe get that message to her, will you? Perhaps in a future book she can get me out of here and help me find my own Prince Charming and castle on the hill.
