How to Host a Great Housewarming Party

Thanks for sharing!

Moving into a new house is the perfect excuse to throw a party. So once you’ve had time to unpack and relax a little, why not host a get together to show off your new property and celebrate with loved ones?

With UK property sales recently hitting a 16-year high, housewarming parties are likely to come thick and fast this year as restrictions continue to ease. Read these hosting tips below to make sure your event stands out as a success.

Make a guest list

So, who are you going to invite? Think about whether you want a casual catch up with families, young children included, or if you’d prefer an adults-only event. Consider a realistic capacity too; you don’t want to overcrowd your new place and risk causing damages!

If you’ve moved in with a partner and/or kids, allocating an equal number of guests each could be the easiest strategy.

Do a deep clean

Even if your new house was left spotless before you moved in, lugging in all your possessions is bound to have kicked up some dust and grime.

Take a robust multi-purpose cleaner to your worktops and any other surfaces where guests might end up eating. Push the vacuum around high traffic areas like hallways and doorways, then make sure your bathrooms are clean and presentable.

Plan the entertainment

Nobody likes organised fun – but creating at least some form of structure for your party will help to keep the good times going.

Will you put on food at a specific time for example? Could you introduce any classic party games like Twister, or even show off your musical skills and lead a singalong? If there are kids around, planning some form of entertainment will encourage them to socialize.

Get supplies in

From elaborate spreads to simple nibbles, you can’t knock party food. Buy in some classic snacks and drinks while remembering to cater for different dietary requirements, including vegan food and non-alcoholic drinks.
You might be feeling a little hard up after shelling out money on a house deposit and other associated fees, so don’t be afraid to ask your guests to chip in.

Respect your new neighbors

Whether it’s your first or your fifth, moving house is a major achievement that you’re well within your rights to celebrate. Just try to do so without disturbing your new neighbors…

Keep noise to a respectable level, particularly later in the evening, and make sure to clear up any mess that escapes beyond your property. Adding your neighbors to the guest list is a smart way to ingratiate yourself in a new setting.

Enjoy yourself

The final tip is simple – enjoy the occasion! You’re likely to have saved up for months or years, while the process of moving can be incredibly stressful. But as long as the people that matter most are there, you’re bound to have a great housewarming.
