Flea Market Felony (The Mattie and Mo Mysteries)
Cozy Mystery
1st in Series
Publisher: Independently published (April 1, 2021)
Paperback: 190 pages
Mattie Modesky’s been hankering to start retirement right. Even if it’s in an RV. The sassy senior believes there’s no time like the present after her policeman husband hangs up his badge and they hit the road.
When they reach their first RV park, the yoga instructor hitting on Mattie’s man turns her peaceful vacation sour. In an effort to stand her ground and confront the sneaky resident, Mattie finds a new friend, a stiff corpse, and her husband as the prime suspect.
She is shocked to her core when her man’s newly purchased pocketknife is the murder weapon. But when the real killer makes the fatal mistake of dognapping her beloved pooch, the silver-haired sleuth sets her sights on solving the crime herself and proving her lawman’s innocence.
Can Mattie clear her hubby’s name and reclaim their pup before the villain turns their golden years into iron bars? Or will the killer roll away in a motor home with Mattie’s dog in the passenger seat?
Flea Market Felony is the adventure-packed first book in The Mattie and Mo Mysteries series. If you like irresistible characters, fun surprises, and captivating whodunits, then you’ll love Tricia L. Sanders’s clever read.

My review of Flea Market Felony
Flea Market Felony is such a fun cozy mystery book to read especially if you like your cozies with “older” protagonists. I do! It’s a nice change from the cozies that include a romance. I mean, I really enjoy those too, but now that I’m “older” as well, I want to read about some older (married or not married, I’m not picky) people solving cases too! In this series, Mattie, Mo (her husband), and Max (their dog) are living Mo’s retirement dream of traveling around in an RV. Mattie’s traveling dreams didn’t include the RV, but she’s adjusting…as long as they don’t sell their house!
I have always thought that traveling the country in an RV would be fun as long as I never had to park it, put gas in it, or have to have it repaired! A magical RV, in other words. Since that’s not going to happen, I enjoyed reading about Mattie’s first RV trip adventure in Flea Market Felony. Though Mattie isn’t crazy about the run down RV park, she’s happy to find a friend while she’s away from her best friend at home. And being a cozy mystery, Mattie’s got to get involved in solving the crime!
Flea Market Felony is very entertaining, and it kept me flipping the pages. I think Mattie and Mo are characters that I’m going to grow very attached to throughout the series. The author portrays them very convincingly as a couple who’ve been married for years. I know I’ll enjoy “traveling” to different parts of the country with them and solving cases along with Mattie. Give this delightful cozy mystery book a read! You won’t be disappointed.
Character Guest Post
Welcome, to our home. I’m Mattie Modesky. You just missed my husband. He took our dog Max for a walk. Make yourself at home. I’ll pour us a cup of tea, and there’s a lovely plate of butter cookies on the table from my friend Lizbeth.
I’m a bit skeptical about traveling around in that big old hunk of metal in our driveway, but we’re headed out on our first RV trip. Mo will be driving, and I‘ll be the navigator. Max will be taking it easy in the back. That’s code for snoozing. He’s good at that.
Speaking of Mo, he’s a retired police chief. I’ve been on his case for years to take it easy, but who would have ever thought, he’d finally hang up his gun belt and give up his badge? Out of the blue, last Christmas he decided it was time to retire. He retired and I took up investigating or snooping as he insists. When he was working, I was too busy worrying about him on the job. That took all my attention. Now that he’s retired, I have a lot of extra time on my hands, and I seem to be pretty good at solving crimes. After I solved the case of the dead elf in the charity donation box, I’d sworn off going after criminals. Personally, I’d prefer never to find another dead body, but you can bet if I do, I’ll… Well, I might have to check it out.
Why don’t you come along with us on our first trip in the RV? We’re headed to the Oldie but Goodies RV Park and Flea Market. It’s in Missouri, so we aren’t headed far. Mo wants a little fishing time, and I’ll be spending time and money at the flea market. He and I fit right in with the oldies theme. The place almost sounds like a retirement home. Let’s hope it nice and quiet there. I’ve got some great mysteries loaded on my e-reader, and all I want to do is read. I’d much prefer to read about a murder, but if the situation arises at the RV park, I may have to get into investigator mode. We’ll see.
