Aenya’s destiny could cost her freedom.
After years of compulsory training to become an elite warrior, sixteen-year-old Aenya plans to run away with her friend Lewin. However, her plans crumble when she is chosen to be Elriyon’s new figurehead and wife to the future ruler, Rieve.
But Aenya has a secret: she is a Darcara—one chosen by elusive dragon-like beings, the Dargun, to receive the wisdom that once governed her people.
When the current rulers decide to stop a growing rebellion by killing the remaining Dargun, Aenya flees to Elriyon’s mysterious interior. Still, the Dargun’s words burn into her mind. They have a new task for her: return to her people and speak the truth, no matter the cost.
With escape close at hand, Aenya must choose between a dangerous calling or finally being free.
A YA fantasy adventure with dragons, a daring quest, and the lightest touch of romance.

Heir of Elriyon Book Excerpt
“So, you’ve enjoyed working with Gan then?”
Gan. I would never refer to him without his title—some instructors maybe, but not him.
“He’s trained me well,” I say, my hands locking into fists.
“I’d say he did,” Rieve replies smiling. “He’s a friend of your father’s too?”
“They were stationed together as Defenders.” I choose my words with caution. “Lewin and I were practically raised together before the Positioning.”
He looks at me curious and not understanding.
“Lewin is Instructor Gan’s son. When Lewin didn’t get into the Eluit, Gan made me his project. In the second year when we got mentors, he became mine.” I don’t add that I kept up with my training during the day so Lewin wouldn’t get lashed in the evenings. I don’t tell him why Instructor Gan only tolerated our friendship. His threats against Lewin provided sufficient motivation for me to work harder and improve faster. They are also why I was talented enough to be chosen for Rieve.
“What did you like best about training?” Rieve asks, a simple question I could never begin to answer.
I think for a while, but nothing in particular sticks out. I have to weed through my best memories—walking the sands with Lewin, standing in the kitchen with Mami, visions, yesterday afternoon… But find nothing I really loved at the Eluit, besides the relief I felt on days when my performance would merit a small, oily smile from Instructor Gan. I am silent for too long, and my frown gives me away.
“Hard to choose one, or hard to recall anything?” he asks.

About the Author
K. Michele Moseley found her love for storytelling on a Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the third grade. Though she struggled with dyslexia, her passion for stories allowed her to overcome the challenges that came with telling them. While she writes in many genres, what she likes best is creating stories for young adults that place real-life obstacles into fantastic worlds. When not inventing new realms, she spends her time chasing after her two sons and playing “Netflix Roulette” with her husband.
