Sneaky’s Supernatural Mystery and Other Cobble Cove Stories

by Debbie De Louise

Sneaky’s Supernatural Mystery and Other Cobble Cove Stories
Cozy Mystery Collection
Setting – New York
Solstice Publishing
Number of Pages ~260

This collection of short stories includes four previously published Cobble Cove mysteries that appeared exclusively as ebooks along with a new story. The collection features the award-winning Sneaky’s Christmas Mystery, Sneaky’s Summer Mystery, KittyKai’s Easter Mystery, Barking Up the Wrong Tree, and the new title story, Sneaky’s Supernatural Mystery.

Each of these stories includes a note from the author explaining her inspiration for it and a cover image. If you’re a fan of the series, a cozy mystery lover, and/or a feline fancier, you’ll enjoy these mysteries that feature the pets in starring roles with Alicia, the librarian.

Guest Post: Stories or Books?

Some people prefer short stories over books because they are quicker to read. Others like books because they are richer and offer more of a reader experience. Then there are those who like both stories and books as long as they are interesting and tell a good tale. What about you? Do you like stories or books better? Why?

The reason I started writing my Cobble Cove short stories that were published as eBooks was because I felt it would keep my readers engaged between novels. Working full-time as a librarian, it isn’t always easy for me to crank out a full-length book, at least not one that I thought readers would enjoy. It takes a lot of time to write and edit a 70,000 + manuscript. By writing shorter pieces with the same characters to advance the storylines of the books, I wanted to satisfy my fans and also give myself time to continue the series.

Some readers prefer physical books, so I had requests for print copies of my eBook stories. I thought the best way to make these available was to put them all together in a collection. But since some readers had already read them as eBooks, I planned to write a new story to include in the collection. That story, “Sneaky’s Supernatural Mystery” became the title story of the collection and the first to appear in the book.

To help readers put the stories into perspective with the books, I included notes about my inspiration for them along with copies of the eBook covers. It was my hope that this collection would attract not only new fans of the series but previous fans who hadn’t read the eBooks. While each story can stand alone, most stories refer back to some of the books in the series. These could be considered teasers, so those who haven’t read the books, might consider doing so.

Readers like to read books of a series in order. The Cobble Cove book series currently consists of five books:

  1. A Stone’s Throw (the first book of the series introduces Alicia Fairmont, a widowed librarian searching for answers to her husband’s hit-and-run death who travels to his childhood hometown of Cobble Cove, New York, to find them. It also introduces Sneaky, the Siamese library cat, and a romance between Alicia and John, a man she later suspects of her husband’s murder.
  2. Between a Rock and a Hard Place (Alicia, now living in Cobble Cove and working at the library, faces another mystery near the holidays and also takes a trip to New York City where she receives a special gift).
  3. Written in Stone (After Alicia, who now co-writes a mystery, has a book signing at the Cobble Cove library, Sneaky disappears, and a woman turns up dead in the stacks. Alicia believes she was meant to be the victim because the woman was wearing an identical blouse).
  4. Love on the Rocks (Poisonous Valentine chocolates delivered to the Sheila, the Cobble Cove Library director disrupt a Valentine’s Day party. One of the suspects is Sheila’s new crush, a professor from California who is visiting Cobble Cove and working with her on research for a book he is writing. This book also introduces KittyKai, the calico, and a new relationship between Alicia’s friend Gilly and the sheriff).
  5. No Gravestone Unturned (Sneaky, the library cat, is the only witness to a murder in the Cobble Cove cemetery on Halloween. He, KittyKai, and Salem, a black cat staying at the inn, investigate the mystery along with their humans).

The stories in Sneaky’s Supernatural Mysteries and Other Cobble Cove Stories include:

  1. The new “Sneaky’s Supernatural Mystery” (When a psychic comes to the library and predicts danger for a patron, Alicia and her friend, Gilly, become involved along with Sneaky and KittyKai).
  2.  “Sneaky’s Christmas Mystery” (winner of the Muse Medallion, the highest award of the Cat Writers’ Association, this story features the murder of a pet store owner near Christmas whose death was originally labeled accidental. Sneaky and KittyKai set out to find the truth with Alicia and Gilly).
  3. Sneaky’s Summer Mystery (When the air conditioning at the Cobble Cove library breaks down during a heatwave. Alicia hires a handyman to fix it, and he is later found dead).
  4. KittyKai’s Easter Mystery (When a wedding ring is found near an Easter egg during a children’s hunt at the inn, Alicia and Gilly, along with Sneaky and KittyKai become involved when the body of the ring’s owner turns up buried on the land).
  5. Barking Up the Wrong Tree (While Cobble Cove is dealing with the COVID pandemic, Fido, the golden retriever, is recruited by Sneaky to find a missing boy, but he doesn’t count on also finding the body of the boy’s teacher).

Whether you like books, stories, or both, I think you will find Sneaky’s Supernatural Mystery and Other Cobble Cove Stories a great addition to the series.
