The life of a cat groomer isn’t just pampering purring felines, it’s murder.
Mobile Cat Groomer Molly Stewart loves her job. Until she finds the dead body of one of her pet parents stabbed with a garden implement in his back yard. When Molly’s uncle Russ becomes the prime suspect in the murder and the sheriff won’t consider anyone else, Molly claws through obstacles as she prowls for clues.
With help from handsome veterinarian Hank Chenowith and Molly’s two cats, Percival and Jasper, will Molly succeed in proving her uncle’s innocence before the real murderer pounces on her?
Excerpt from Brushed up on Murder
“Hey, Molly. How are you?”
I set the carrier on the table in between us. “Usually, I’d answer fine. But today? Not a normal day.”
“What’s up?” He opened the cage door and snagged Jasper beneath the armpits then eased him out. “Hey, where’s Percival? Is he okay?”
It warmed my heart his expression was alarm that perhaps something had happened to my cat. He genuinely cared for his patients, as I did my clients. “Percival’s fine. This little guy is…”
“Wait. Isn’t this Durbin’s cat? Jasper?”
“Yes. Well, it was. He sneezed this morning and I need to make sure he isn’t sick and is up to date on his vaccinations, since I’ll be taking him home to be around Percival.”
“Now you really need to explain. Did Durbin give you his pet?”
“If only it were so simple.”
His eyebrows rose.
“Durbin won a grooming session from me at the Library Auction.”
“Okay.”
“When I went to drop Jasper back at his house, Durbin wasn’t there. Well, he was, but not really.”
Hank studied me. “Did you forget to drink some coffee this morning? You’re not making much sense.” He put on his stethoscope and placed the metal piece at the end on the cat’s chest.
I blew out a breath. “What happened was this. I found Durbin face down in his garden. And…he’s dead.”
About Ruth J. Hartman
Ruth J. Hartman spends her days herding cats and her nights spinning mysterious tales. She, her husband, and their cats love to spend time curled up in their recliners watching old Cary Grant movies. Well, the cats sit in the people’s recliners. Not that the cats couldn’t get their own furniture. They just choose to shed on someone else’s.
Ruth, a left-handed, cat-herding, farmhouse-dwelling writer uses her sense of humor as she writes tales of lovable, klutzy women who seem to find trouble without even trying.
Ruth’s husband and best friend, Garry, reads her manuscripts, rolls his eyes at her weird story ideas, and loves her despite her insistence all of her books have at least one cat in them. See updates about her cozy mysteries at Ruthjhartman.com.

Sounds like a fun read. I’ve heard of mobile dog groomers, not mobile cat groomers. Love reading books featuring 🐈 and 🐕 in the storyline.
Hi Dianne,
I had so much fun doing research about cat groomers! Thanks for your comment 🙂

I love a good cozy mystery especially if a pet is involved.
