Character Guest Post: How to Survive a Lead Role- Piper Addison Guest Post
We’ve all been there. One minute you’re walking down the street, minding your own business, and the next you’re the main character in someone’s book. If you’re lucky, you get to play a part in a romantic comedy with a happily ever after ending. But if you’re like me, you might find yourself in the middle of a murder investigation or two.
To help all the cozy mystery main characters in the world, I decided to take it upon myself to create a survival cheat sheet for the sticky situations we land ourselves in. Because, you know, I’m not busy enough solving murders. Us main characters need to stick together!
The next time you find yourself looking at a chalk outline, follow these steps and you might have a chance to make it to book two.
- Do not talk to the police. Unless absolutely necessary, don’t offer any information you don’t want to bite you in the behind later. Let the cops do their job because chances are, you’ll be solving their murder for them soon.
- Always carry a makeshift weapon. A can of hairspray, a tire iron, and very sharp pencil. Whatever you have you can stabby-stab with or use as a distraction, keep it on you.
- Lists are your friend. Keep a notebook around and jot down all your lists in it. Your suspect list, your clue list, your grocery list… Nothing gets forgotten. You never know when something might come in handy down the line.
- A smile goes a long way. Since you don’t have a badge to get you into people’s graces, coat your words with honey. The best way to get someone to talk is with compliments. But don’t be a phony. No one likes those.
- And finally, move away from the town that keeps stacking up with dead bodies! Just kidding. All this adventure is what makes us feel alive!
