Excerpt from Love in the Squared Circle
The empty plate in front of her suddenly became the most interesting thing in the world as she refused to make eye contact with the others gathered around the table.
What could she say to ease the tense situation? Was an apology called for? Before she could formulate a plan, Damon broke the silence.
“So, you’re Blane’s partner tonight, huh?”
“Yes, sir.” Jay’s voice sounded unsure.
“Well, what are you going to do when I win his championship belt tonight?”
Slender shoulders drew back as Jay sat up straight and stared the man down. David and Goliath flashed through Trinity’s mind. She hid a smile behind the napkin she lifted to her mouth under the false pretense of wiping it.
“You’re not going to win it.”
“I’m not, huh? What makes you so sure?”
Jay’s chin lifted. Defiance at its best. “You’re not going to win, because Blane is the biggest and the strongest. Besides, I’m on his team tonight, and I always beat my daddy. You won’t be so tough.”
Trinity’s mouth dropped open in horror at the brazen trash talk coming from her son, but the men around the table didn’t seem to mind. If their chuckles and outright laughter were any indication, they actually enjoyed the banter.
“I guess you’ve been told, Damon. That championship belt is staying right where it belongs, right there around my waist.”
About the Author
Heather Greer loves growing in her relationship with God and helping others do the same. While she’s served in ministries dealing with toddlers through adults, her focus is on encouraging and challenging teen and adult believers to go further in their faith. She is blessed to be able to use her God-given passion for writing to do this, both in her books and blog.
Heather is a pastor’s kid from southern Illinois. While she never intended to marry a pastor, she became a pastor’s wife when her husband answered the call to preach five years into their marriage. Now that three of her four kids have flown the nest, Heather enjoys more time for reading and writing and writing about reading.
