To solve a kidnapping case
they’ll become the hunted.

Firefighter Pat Ryan is stunned when he hears gunfire and two strangers crash through his door. An anonymous tip led journalist Rachel Davenport to a ramshackle cabin, where she helped an abducted teen escape. With Pat and his K-9 rescue dog’s help, they go on the run with deadly kidnappers in pursuit. But with innocent lives at stake, Rachel and Pat must battle foes and fears to live through the night.

From Love Inspired Suspense: Courage. Danger. Faith.

My review of Kidnapped in the Woods

If you love suspense, you’ll love the latest book by Deena Alexander, Kidnapped in the Woods. This Love Inspired Suspense book stars Rachel Davenport and Pat Ryan who are thrown together when Rachel and a girl she’s attempting to rescue from a human trafficking ring find Pat in the vacation cabin where he’s been recovering.

Rachel is a journalist who is contacted by a girl she’s formerly interviewed. The girl is in with a bad group and overhears her boyfriend talking about taking a friend of hers to be sold to the highest bidder. Though this book is fiction, human trafficking is everywhere. This would have been unfathomable to us several years ago, but now we hear about it way too frequently. And there’s so much more we don’t hear about! When Rachel hears that the deal is going down right then, she heads to a remote cabin in an attempt to rescue the girl. Miraculously, she is able to get the girl, who has been drugged, to follow her, but they’re soon met with gunfire.

Enter Pat Ryan, firefighter. Pat is hoping for some peace while he recovers both physically and mentally from a tragic fire. That peace is shattered when Rachel finds his cabin. Of course, the bad guys follow and a chaotic, dangerous pursuit begins. I loved Pat’s character. He is really struggling from the fire and is trying to decide what to do next. He puts his own peace and safety aside to help Rachel and the kidnap victim.

Kidnapped in the Woods in a real page-turner! I read this in a day because there was no way I could put it down. It is filled with heart-pounding, non-stop action. The characters don’t know who they can trust, so you’re always wondering if they’re headed into a trap. One reason I enjoy Love Inspired Suspense books is that the characters rely on their faith in God to get them through whatever they’re facing. Sometimes a character has faced something which has made them question God and feel that He has abandoned them. I love that the circumstances and other characters lead them back to God by reminding them that God is with them during the storms they face. God doesn’t move. We move.

I highly recommend Kidnapped in the Woods for its page turning action, well-developed characters, chilling circumstances, as well as the fact that it’s a Christian book which portrays God’s faithfulness.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Character Guest Post: Injured on the Job By Pat Ryan

For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be a firefighter. My uncle, more of a father to me than my own father had been, was a firefighter, and I wanted nothing more than to follow in his footsteps. Then I got Shadow, my Bernese Mountain Dog, and he not only took to rescue training, he loved it. So, together, we became part of the Seaport Fire & Rescue team.

At least, we were. Now, I’m not sure where I stand.

I was injured while fighting a house fire—a fire that claimed the lives of the couple that lived there, the couple I was too late, too slow, to save. I almost reached them, had them in view, when the world around me exploded, throwing me from the ladder and consuming the building. My fault. All because I hesitated, only for a few seconds, an instant of indecision after a floor collapse had injured three of my fellow firefighters not that long ago. If I hadn’t paused at the bottom of the ladder, would I have been able to save them? Or would I have died too? I’ll never know, but I do know I won’t live with that guilt again.

Maybe I’m not cut out for a life of danger. Maybe I’d be better off giving up volunteering with Seaport Fire & Rescue to focus on my full-time job as an IT tech. Yet, somehow sitting behind a computer all day doesn’t give me the same sense of joy as saving people does. So, here I sit, in my uncle’s cabin deep in the Long Island Pine Barrens, recuperating and trying to decide what path to follow.

Gunshots interrupt my pity party. Thinking it’s hunters, I pull the front door open to look outside. And a half-conscious teenage girl tumbles into my arms, followed by a frantic woman with a hand gun and a barrage of gunfire. Seems maybe some people aren’t meant for a quiet life.
