“You get to decide whose opinion matters to you,” Annette had told me during one of our counseling sessions a few months ago. “A stranger, a person whose hateful heart flows out of their mouth with every word, loved ones. Everyone has something to say, but you have the power to choose whether or not it’s important enough to pack in your suitcase and carry with you for the rest of your life.”
If only it was as easy as tossing hurtful comments in the trash and being rid of them forever. I didn’t know how to do that yet.
I rested my head back against my apartment door, fingers wrapped around a mug of hot chocolate, and watched the colors of the sunrise seep between the buildings.
My journal on the ground next to me captured my attention. I had written “Dear Jesus” at the top of the page, but I had been too rattled by my dreams to switch my thoughts to gratitude.

I plan on reading the "Holly" book series by C.C. Warrens, on my holiday break from work. It looks so good. I love a series based on a main character, like Holly. Being a girl, makes it more desirable to me.
