by Susan McCormick

The Fog Ladies: Date with Death (A San Francisco Cozy Murder)
Cozy Mystery
4th in Series
Setting – California
Wild Rose Press (October 2, 2023)
Paperback ‏ : ‎ 338 pages

The Fog Ladies are at it again, spunky senior sleuths and an overstressed young medical resident solving murders from their elegant apartment building in San Francisco. They join a senior dating group, and romantic intrigue soon turns to murder. Graham Parselle, lady killer extraordinaire, plunges off a cliff on a Senior Singles outing. Did one of his dates pitch him over? Or is Olivia Honeycut’s new beau to blame?

My review of The Fog Ladies: Date with Death

I loved The Fog Ladies: Date with Death! It’s the second book I’ve read in the series and the fourth in the series. I also read the third book, and though I enjoyed it, I liked this one even more. I think having read another Fog Ladies book and being a little familiar with the characters contributed to that. However, you will enjoy this book without having read any of the others!

The characters are what make the book so enjoyable. They’re a group of older ladies, most of whom live in the same building. I do love senior sleuth cozy mystery books either set in a retirement home or a setting like this where the ladies can just walk to each other’s apartments. It just makes the book more cozy…at least to me!

When one of the characters announces that she’s joined a senior dating group, the others are shocked. Then another character decides to join and eventually all of the ladies go even though one is happily attached to a single gentleman in their apartment building and the others wouldn’t be interested. But they’ve got to get involved because…murder! During a senior singles group hiking outing, a member falls to his death, but the ladies know it wasn’t an accident. When another member is murdered, it becomes much more personal since one of the Fog Ladies was seeing him.

As I said, I loved this book. The characters propel the story forward with their unique investigating strategies and entertaining antics. They’re a group that you’ve got to get to know yourself in order to truly appreciate them. Since this is only the fourth book, you should start at the beginning if you’re able. One character in particular is an acquired taste, but without her, their group would not be nearly as entertaining! I really enjoyed trying to figure out whodunit along with the ladies. I’ll admit that I was stumped! I did have the murderer on my radar, but they were way near the bottom of my suspect list!

I highly recommend The Fog Ladies: Date with Death because it is truly entertaining! The setting, characters, and murders make this a must read cozy mystery book!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
