Saturday night at the movies has some added flair now that Darren and Elise Shultz are reopening one of Salem’s classic theaters. Charlene is delighted to help the couple with their venture, and Darren has lined up a cult classic double-header featuring Lon Chaney in The Wolfman. But things get hairier than expected when Elise starts to choke on her popcorn mid-movie—and once the lights go up, she’s dead . . .
When tests reveal Elise’s popcorn was poisoned, Detective Sam Holden eyes her husband as the guilty party. Charlene doesn’t believe Darren would hurt his wife—even if his company’s specialty seasoned salts were sprinkled on the fatal snack. But who else had a motive to do something so unsavory? With a little help from Jack, the handsome ghost who haunts her B&B, Charlene delves into the ill-fated couple’s past. And the more she learns, the more Charlene wonders if this time, she’s bitten off more than she can chew . . .
Interview with Traci Wilton
1.What is your writing process?
A) When I am on deadline, I like to write in the morning, and edit or market in the afternoon. I have a page count that I like to hit.
2. Do you write every day?
B) No. Unless I am behind on my deadline, and then I will stay at the keyboard until my eyes cross.
3. Do you have a favorite character?
C) It’s like having children! I love them all. In this particular set of characters, I think Avery, Charlene’s protégée, stole my heart.
4. Do you have a least favorite character?
D) Hmm. In Mrs. Morris and the Ghost of Christmas Past I really didn’t like David. He was the victim, but he turned out to have such a sordid history. Wasn’t a nice guy.
5. Have you been to where your book takes place?
E) Yes. After we sold our first book, Mrs. Morris and the Ghost, Patrice and I were able to visit Salem. We did everything that Charlene, as a new resident of Salem, would do. I believe we ate our weight in lobster
6. Have you ever done the job of your protagonist?
F) I have never owned a B and B, but it would be a great job. You’d get to meet a ton of new people. In Charlene’s case, she has this historic mansion on a gorgeous property, and her housekeeper Minnie is a talented chef. If only Charlene’s was real I’d stay there in a heartbeat—Jack the ghost and all.
7. Do you have an actress or actor that you model your protagonist after?
G) Yes. Charlene to me was modeled after Jessica Biel.
8. Where does the name Traci Wilton come from?
H) At the beginning of the series, I had a co-writer, Patrice Wilton. I’m Traci, she is Wilton, and voila. (perhaps not as creative but it worked for us!)
9. Do you listen to music while you write?
I) I don’t—I need silence!
10. What is the next book in the series?
J) Mrs. Morris and the Mermaid. After that, Mrs. Morris and the Venomous Valentine.
