My review of Mountain Storm Survival

Mountain Storm Survival by Cathy McDavid is a page-turning novel from Harlequin Love Inspired Suspense. It’s a story about forgiveness, faith, and second chances.

Kate Spencer landing a new job at Still Water Ranch isn’t accidental. The owner knows she’s not just seeking employment. She wants to make amends for something that happened years ago. When Rand Walkins finds out that she’s been hired, he’s livid. He wants nothing to do with her, but they’ve got to work together while taking the youth campers on a two day trail ride. When two girls run away from the camp and accidentally find an illegal mining operation, Rand, Kate, and the girls face terrible threats from not only the miners but also the weather as they try to make their way back to the ranch.

Mountain Storm Survival was so exciting! I couldn’t put it down. The author’s descriptive writing makes you feel as if you’re running from the miners along with Rand, Kate, and the girls. The deluge of rain, climbing rocks, running through weeds, being exhausted and hungry and thirsty…I felt like I was  experiencing all of this right along with the characters.

The characters are well-written and realistic. They’ve had very real struggles, but God has led them through. I love the way McDavid weaves faith and forgiveness through Mountain Storm Survival. Don’t we all struggle with trying to forgive? Just when I think I’ve forgiven someone, a memory of how they wronged me and some bitterness pops up, and I’ve got to let it go again. It’s also hard asking for someone’s forgiveness! I admire Kate for this. Another thing I thought about as I read this was how God works everything for the good of those who believe in him and trust him as their Savior.  If Rand and Kate hadn’t gone through what they did, Kate might not have found God, and they may not have found each other.

I highly recommend Mountain Storm Survival for its thrilling action, wonderful characters, and its themes of forgiveness and faith. It reminded me of how much I can trust God to work things out for my good and for his plan for my life.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

About the Author

Cathy McDavid

NY Times and USA Today bestselling author CATHY MCDAVID wrote her first book at sixteen. The self-illustrated children’s story featured a young girl whose lack of responsibility nearly resulted in the demise of her pet fish. It’s quite possible the book was an autobiography, but Cathy’s not telling. She wrote her second book, and first romance, at nineteen with the help of a portable Smith Corona typewriter. One never knows how the unrequited crush on a college professor will affect their eventual career. These days, with over 57 titles and 1.6 million books in print, she still incorporates a little of her own life in each story. A lover of all things western and former avid horsewoman, her stories include riding, ranching, and rodeo because, well, who doesn’t enjoy a good cowboy romance? Mother of grown twins and married to her own real-life sweetheart, Cathy is living her dream penning heart-stopping suspense thrillers and heart-touching family dramas for Harlequin.
