Mass Market Paperback ‏ : ‎ 224 pages

A baby in need of protection—

and a hitman in pursuit.

After evading an attack, defense attorney Adam Spencer is on the run from a dangerous hitman. The killer’s wife is Adam’s only hope at apprehending the criminal—until she lands in the hospital. Now he must depend on her twin sister, Jaelyn Reed, to find the answers they need…all while protecting the baby niece Jaelyn didn’t know she had. But with threats at every turn, trust may be the deadliest trap…

From Love Inspired Suspense: Courage. Danger. Faith.

Character Guest Post: My Life by Jaelyn Reed

Until recently, my life was pretty run-of-the-mill. I grew up in Seaport, New York, a small town on the east end of Long Island’s south shore, daughter of a prominent couple in the community, Dr. and Mrs. Elijah Reed. I worked as an ER nurse in the local hospital, volunteered as a firefighter at Seaport Fire & Rescue, and I had a close-knit group of friends and no drama in my life.

Oh, and I was an only child. Then, just for fun in the middle of a blizzard that buried Seaport, a few of my fellow firefighters talked me into doing a DNA test. The last thing I ever expected was to shake loose any deep, dark secrets from the Reed family tree. And then my results came in…and last month the friends and family app connected me to a woman I’ve never heard of—Maya Barlowe.

Since my parents were killed in a car accident five years ago, I couldn’t ask them about her. I have no other family and didn’t want to go to any of my parents’ friends. At least, not yet. I needed time to process the information first. I hadn’t yet decided whether or not to reach out to the woman, try to ascertain how we shared not only the same DNA but the same birthdate as well. Even as I debated my options, I hadn’t yet fully accepted the fact it could actually be true, that I could have a long-lost twin sister I never knew about.

And then a fellow firefighter crashed through the emergency room doors, pushing a gurney, and screaming for help for Jaelyn Reed, and my entire world turned into chaos. Staring down at my own features was surreal. But before I could even start to process the dying woman who can only be my twin, a gunman opened fire in the emergency room, and I was forced on the run with a handsome stranger who promised answers. If we can live long enough to find them.

Just when I think matters can’t get any worse, we come across something even more mind boggling, something that might just get both of us killed.

So, there you have it, from ER nurse to woman on the run in a matter of hours. I can honestly say, I never expected to face Christmas in a killer’s crosshairs.

My review of Christmas in the Crosshairs

If you like reading exciting suspense, clean romance, and page-turning action, you will love Christmas in the Crosshairs by Deena Alexander! I’ve read several books by Deena Alexander, and I’ve loved them all. Like the others, I couldn’t put this book down!

Jaelyn Reed is just coming off of a nursing shift in the ER when she hears fire and rescue come in yelling for help, saying that she’s been the victim of a severe beating. Since she’s obviously not the victim, she is shocked to see that it is her twin sister that she never knew existed until she took a DNA test on a whim. As if seeing her twin lying unconscious and bleeding in the ER isn’t enough, a gunman enters the ER and starts firing at her. Enter defense attorney Adam Spencer who is looking for Jaelyn’s twin Maya Barlowe to see if she’ll help him bring down a person with a lot of power…a person who hired a hitman to kill Adam’s wife 5 years ago. Knowing that Jaelyn is now in danger, Adam quickly convinces Jaelyn that her best chance is to go on the run with him and hunt down the evidence he needs. In the process of searching, Jaelyn and Adam find a baby that is obviously Maya’s. Now, they’re even more vulnerable.

Let me tell you…this book will keep you on the edge of your seat! Just when Adam and Jaelyn think they’re safe, someone finds where they are, and they’ve got to run again. I love the detailed descriptions the author provides. It put me right in the middle of the action! I stayed up so late reading this book because I literally couldn’t stop. I had to find out what was going to happen. The twists and turns in the plot just kept me turning the pages. So, if you don’t want to be up until 2 am, start reading this book earlier in the day!

If you’ve read Love Inspired Suspense before, you know that they have elements of faith in them. Often, one of the characters has abandoned hope. Something so tragic happens, like losing a spouse, and the characters feel as if God failed them. God will never fail you. We live in an imperfect world. God gave us all free-will. He doesn’t control us like puppets on a string. Therefore, bad things happen to good people because bad people do bad things. It is inspiring to read about circumstances that lead characters to once again trust in God. People say that God will never give you more than you can handle, but that’s not accurate. God never said that you won’t go through storms. He says that he’ll be with you through the storm. It’s this element of faith that sets Love Inspired Suspense books apart.

I highly recommend Christmas in the Crosshairs by Deena Alexander. It has strong, well-written characters and page-turning, romantic suspense with an element of faith in God running through it. Add it to your TBR list today!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Although I would LOVE to read all that I haven’t read, my first choice would be “Kidnapped in the Woods”. Love the K-9 stories! Enter Firefighter Pat Ryan and his K-9 and journalist Rachel all to save an abducted teen and WOW the excitement and danger bound to go hand in hand. Can’t wait for the opportunity to read and review it!
