From author Lena Gregory comes a hunt for more than just treasure…

Danika Delany is loving running her uncle’s old fashioned malt shop on eastern Long Island and putting her own modern spin on the treats they serve. Life is finally looking up for her! That is, until local billionaire Maxwell Crumbholtz dies and leaves his fortune in the form of a treasure hunt. Chaos descends on Watchogue, and Dani and the rest of the gang from the Coffee & Cream Café join the melee when they enter the contest, try to decipher the clues, and go in search of the treasure. But Dani digs up more than she expected when she discovers a dead body buried instead of a treasure! To make matters worse, a witness claims to have seen Dani at the scene of the murder. Now, instead of a four-billion-dollar payday, Dani is on the hunt for a killer.

My review of Double Scoop of Murder

Double Scoop of Murder is the third book in the delightful Coffee & Cream Cafe Mystery series by Lena Gregory, and I loved it just as much as the first two! You can read this as a standalone book, but I loved the first two so much that I think you should read those too! You’ll be a lot more invested in the characters if you already know them, and you’re going to want to know them!

Dani has done her best to not get involved in the treasure hunt mania that has overtaken her little Long Island town of Watchogue. However, it’s really hard to say no to Eli, so she agrees to join the team along with Gwen, Eli, and Dani’s sister, Meghan. The town is overrun with people trying to find the $4 billion that’s buried in town. Tempers are bound to flare, right? Well, leave it to Dani and her friends to dig up a body when they try to dig up the first clue!

With each book, I grow to love these characters more and more! Eli is a trip, and I am so glad he is in the series. And without giving spoilers, I love how Dani’s relationship with a certain someone is progressing. Totally my favorite! Uncle Jimmie and Harry are still making me laugh as is Dani’s mom when the whole family is together for dinner. Not that she’s trying to be funny. I love that the whole family does gather for dinner because family and friends who are like family are important. We all need people who love and support us no matter what!

I found that the actual murder in Double Scoop of Murder was really hard to solve! I couldn’t decide who the killer(s?) was because of the many red herrings. I enjoyed trying to figure out the clue for the treasure. There were two actual clues, but the other was not really one we as readers were meant to solve. I did figure out what the first clue was meant to be before the others, so that made me feel pretty smart. The characters who were included just for this book were an eclectic bunch that I enjoyed getting to know…and figuring out if one of them was a cold blooded killer!

I adored Double Scoop of Murder and think that all cozy fans will too! I highly recommend it! It has well-written characters who I love, an emphasis on family and friendship, and a well-plotted, puzzling murder mystery! I can’t wait for book 4!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
