When career day turns to actual MURDER…Andie finds herself on the case, looking for clues only to discover Bushwhack’s most recent murder investigation might be connected to a decades old cold case.
Andie teams up with hunky boyfriend, sheriff Zac Mars, to piece together the elaborate puzzle, but finds herself tangled up in a web of lies. Can she juggle a thriving outdoor company, a blooming relationship with the town sheriff, and find her latest suspect before life comes crashing down leading the killer straight to her?
Interview with Jodi Linton
Thanks for taking the time to share a bit about yourself with my readers and me!
Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a USA Today Bestselling Author, mother of two teens and three animals. My husband and I are originally from Texas, but we recently relocated to Oklahoma City for jobs. When I’m not writing, I teach fourth graders how to write. And I can’t say it enough how proud of them I am. I pushed them real hard to get them ready for a state writing test. We’ve worked countless days on grammar, structure, and spelling, and now they are capable of writing five, self-edited, typed paragraphs in a research paper form. They also find it cool that I write books.
How long have you been writing?
I’ve been writing since elementary school. I won a state poetry contest in high school and was first published at the age of fourteen. I wrote for the yearbook, and in this class is where my writing grew. My high school yearbook teacher is still involved in my writing. When it comes recent publishing, I sold my first book to a publisher back in 2013, which turned out to be a series. My first series was romantic suspense, with humor. Lately, I made the switch to cozy mystery, which I love. I do, however, have a thriller series in the works.
Did you always want to be an author? What made you choose the cozy mystery genre?
I’ve always loved to write. I used to write movie scripts in my diary in my youth. When it comes to the cozy mystery genre, I love mystery novels with romance, and humor. My first published book was all this, but heavier on the romance. Switching to cozy mystery was just a natural move.
Do you prefer to read cozy mystery books, or do you have another favorite genre? What are you reading now?
I read thrillers. Sometimes horror. I’m in a master’s program, and with school being in session, I don’t get to read as often but a few months ago I read The Final Hunt by Audrey J. Cole. It was fast-paced and set in the wilderness.
Do you have a favorite place to write?
We recently moved to a new house, and I finally got my own office. After ten years, I have a writing cave and I’m loving it.
What’s on your desk (if you write at one!)?
Just my computer, but I have a picture my husband got me in Taos, New Mexico that is mustard, yellow and says WRITE ON!
What is the first book you remember reading as a child? What was one of your favorite books you read as a child?
The first book I read was Secret Garden. I loved R.L. Stine, especially The New Girl in the Fear Street series.
Do you like audiobooks, physical books, or e-books better? Why?
I read physical books and e-books. I haven’t gotten into audiobooks. I’m not in the car long enough to listen to one. Normally, it’s an e-book because they are more accessible to
get. If I head to the bookstore for an afternoon, I’ll buy a physical book.
If you had the opportunity to live anywhere in the world for a year while writing a book that took place in that same setting, where would you choose?
Greece or Maine. I travelled the world before I was twenty-one. I was lucky to be given those opportunities, but I’ve always wanted to see the Maine coastline and write next to a lighthouse or walk the streets in Greece and gaze at the ocean. Maine will hopefully happen in a few years for an anniversary trip. Not for a year, but maybe two weeks.
What or who has influenced you the most as a writer?
As I’ve aged, I’d say my travels. I probably wouldn’t have thought of the Southwest Exposure Series if I hadn’t gone on so many vacations with the family to the mountains.
Do you have any author friends who support you while you’re writing? Do you belong to any writing groups?
Yes. Shout-out to Carmen Falcone. We met…well, I won’t dish on our ages. But she’s always there to support me.
Finally, what are you working on now? Can you tell us a bit about it?
Yes, I can. I’m working on the first book in a new cozy mystery series as well as the first book in my thriller series. New cozy series should release summer 2024.
Thank you again for taking the time to answer my questions!
