My review of Yukon Wilderness Evidence

Yukon Wilderness Evidence is another page-turning romantic suspense by Darlene Turner. This Love Inspired Suspense book is a second chance romance and is the fifth in the author’s Crisis Rescue Team series. Each of the books is a standalone, linked only by side characters, so don’t worry if you haven’t read the others…though the others are exciting too!

I watch a lot of crime shows and police procedurals. One of my favorites is Bones, and there are a lot of forensic scientists on that show. However, I don’t think they ever had a forensic botanist! In Yukon Wilderness Evidence, Keely Ash is a forensic botanist, and she’s working on a case where the age and types of vegetation will help determine how long bones found in the wilderness have been there. But things go horribly wrong when the team is attacked while in the field. Enter Brett Ryerson, paramedic, someone Keely never expected to see again.

The characters in Yukon Wilderness Evidence are very well-written. I love Keely’s strength and her kindness. That kind heartedness is no thanks to her standoffish, emotionally shuttered mom. It’s hard to feel anything but anger at Keely’s mom’s actions and attitude, which just shows you how good the author is at creating realistic characters. Brett has trouble trusting anyone because he’s been lied to and hurt. He’s fallen away from his Christian faith because of something that happened during his teen years. I loved Brett’s dad. Even though he’s very ill, he doesn’t give up on Brett and encourages him to read Exodus.

The theme of wandering through the wilderness is evident in Yukon Wilderness Evidence. Not only do the characters wander through a literal wilderness, but also they wander through the wilderness of faith, trust, and forgiveness. As Christians, we need to remember that God is with us in all of our wilderness wanderings. The book of Exodus exhibits God’s love for his children. The Israelites had to wander for a whole lot longer than that trip should have taken, but they wandered away from God so many times that they had to keep wandering in order to become the people God made them to be. Brett’s dad shows his wisdom by telling Brett to read Exodus, and we’d be wise to follow his advice too.

I highly recommend Yukon Wilderness Evidence for its edge-of-your-seat suspense, realistic characters, Biblical themes, and second chance romance!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

I like that the books are standalone stories, so that even if you haven’t read the others in the series, you can still follow the plot and the characters in each book separately. I like that it’s set in the Yukon which makes it more mysterious. The remoteness of the Yukon setting makes it sound more suspenseful.
