Trying to maintain control of her overly enthusiastic students while managing life as a fully-fledged adult, Vivien’s life is balancing as perfectly as a gymnast sticking her landing until the scale tips when she receives an unlikely and unwelcome text message from her ex-boyfriend…her dead ex-boyfriend.
Trapped in the Transitional World and having to atone for his many sins in life, Kasper must “make good” by helping to solve the murder of his beloved high school lunch lady. The problem? It’s hard to solve a murder as a ghost. But Kasper doesn’t count on Vivien’s reluctance to help him, not to mention her doubt. And he really doesn’t count on his reaction to Vivien moving on with relationships in her life that don’t include him.
What ensues is hilarity and frustration as Kasper’s time is running out to convince Vivien to help him. Being a ghost is hard. But so is being a new teacher.

Hello! My name is Marcy Blesy, and I am the author of the Tucson Valley Retirement Community Cozy Mystery Series. Books 1-6 are out now with Book 7 coming by the end of October. In my newest cozy mystery venture, I’ve written the first two books in The Ghost Texter Paranormal Cozy Mystery Series. Book 1 is called Cooking to Death (Stirring the Pot) and is out now. Book 2 comes out on August 1st: Dribbling to Death (Taking His Shot).
The Ghost Texter Paranormal Cozy Mystery Series was inspired by a TikTok video I watched earlier this year. The creator was talking about receiving a text message from his dad, but his dad had died three years prior. He went on to explain that, unbeknownst to him, his mom had kept his dad’s cellphone and used that phone to call her son that day. It really shook him, and he wished it could be real. While my story has the main character receiving a text message from her jerk of an ex-boyfriend and not someone she still cared for, the fact that he was dead and should not be able to text her is where this idea came from for The Ghost Texter Paranormal Cozy Mystery Series. The ghost of the ex-boyfriend made some poor choices while alive and must atone for some of his sins from beyond by “making good” before he can pass out of Transitional World. He needs help, though, which leads him to contact his ex-girlfriend, current and frazzled kindergarten teacher, Vivien, for help. She is shocked…and less than thrilled.
I started my writing career over ten years with early chapter book series for children. I am a former teacher and school librarian and was inspired by my students to create books that would make them laugh and entertain them. My veterinarian husband and I co-wrote the popular Be the Vet Series for aspiring veterinarians.
As a fan of Murder, She Wrote and cozy mysteries, I began writing my own cozies last year and have fallen in love with the genre and the readers who love it, too. Cozy mystery readers are the kindest, most supportive readers! The Tucson Valley Retirement Community Cozy Mystery Series features a 39-year-old woman who flees the problems in her life by running off to visit her parents in their snowbird retirement community in Arizona. Little did she know she’d find even more drama when she discovers a dead body, adopts a puppy, and learns to date again after twenty years. It’s a hoot, and I loved creating the quirky characters.
When not writing, I can be found walking on a disc golf course as my husband and young adult sons play. I am quite adept at climbing into the weeds to find an errant disc (like a frisbee). I also enjoy searching for beach glass along the shore of Lake Michigan when there is no snow on the ground! One of my favorite places to write is at a picnic table at the beach house in my local community. Cooking to Death (Stirring the Pot) is set in a Southwest Michigan beach town, drawn from my experiences here. Plus, reading a good book with my toes in the sand is a spring and summer must!
