I’m Denise Jaden and I love cozy cats.

I love curious cats that cuddle up to you on their agenda. I love cat antics and cat videos that have me rolling on the floor laughing. I especially love cats that help solve mysteries.

This is my cat, Indy. When we first got her as a tiny kitten, she purred so loudly, my son said she should be in the Indy 500, and that’s how she got her name. In my Mallory Beck cozy culinary mystery series, the cat, Hunch, is loosely based off of Indy… a gray tabby who sniffs out every new thing that enters the house, always looking for clues, growling at strangers who arrive at the door, and generally acts more dog-like than cat-like. Except of course when it comes to cuddling. Both Indy and Hunch will only cuddle when it’s their decision.

Book 1, Murder at Mile Marker 18, begins with a grieving widow, Mallory, and the cat (Hunch) that much preferred her late husband. Mallory is a chef and Hunch has very little use for human food. He used to love hanging out in his mystery novelist human’s office while he plotted new novels. Hunch can’t find much about Mallory that interests him until she delivers a casserole to another grieving family and discovers there may have been foul play involved in the man’s death. At that point, Hunch quickly jumps to attention to help.
