Setting – Connecticut
Publisher ‏ : ‎ Beyond the Page Publishing (November 12, 2024)
Paperback ‏ : ‎ 226 pages

Hope Early is fully immersed in the spirit of the Christmas season, until the sounds of joyful carolers are silenced by the words “Ho-ho-homicide” . . .

Food blogger Hope Early always gets a hearty holiday laugh from knowing that the weeks leading up to Christmas are as frantic as they are festive. But in spite of everything she has to do, the one thing she always has time for is the annual Jingle Bell Stroll, a night when the community gathers to sing their hearts out and enjoy each other’s company. This year’s caroling feels especially heartwarming, until the final note lands with a thud when Hope finds the body of the man who’d volunteered to play Santa, a knife plunged into his back.

With virtually the whole town present at the caroling, the list of suspects seems endless. It doesn’t take long, though, for both Hope and the police to turn a sharp eye on the victim’s bitter and vindictive ex-wife, along with his new wife, who may have been after his money. Then Hope unearths a clue that suggests the dead man may have been hiding a sordid past and connections to unseemly characters. But as she closes in on the killer, they’re determined to wring her neck before she can ring in the new year . . .

Includes tasty and toasty holiday recipes!

“Bringing Joy with Christmas Eve Cookie Deliveries: A Heartwarming Holiday Tradition”

Who can resist homemade cookies, especially at Christmas? Hope Early, the main character of my Food Blogger Mystery series, finds pure joy in baking and sharing her delicious creations with friends and family. When the holiday season arrives, she ties on her favorite festive apron and goes to work, filling her kitchen with warmth and the aroma of one of her favorite holiday traditions.

“Write what you know” is advice every writer hears, and it’s exactly what I followed when I began the Food Blogger mystery series. Hope and I share a few things in common, especially our love for baking cookies. For years, I’ve spent the Christmas season baking batch after batch, arranging them on trays wrapped in cellophane and tied with big, plaid bows. Delivering those homemade treats has always been a holiday highlight. So when I started brainstorming A Corpse Among the Carolers, I knew that on Christmas Eve, Hope would carry on this tradition, spreading cheer through her own cookie deliveries.

I’d love to share a little snippet from A CORPSE AMONG THE CAROLERS, where Hope is out delivering her beloved Christmas cookies.

Her first stop? The Jefferson Police Department, as was tradition. Ever since returning to her hometown, delivering her holiday cookies to the officers had become a cherished annual ritual. While it once provided an additional reason to see Ethan, she now anticipated a brief visit with Sam, assuming he was on duty that day.

Hope followed the familiar path to the police station, entering the utilitarian lobby. At the front desk, Chuck, the eager-eyed dispatcher and younger brother of one of her high school classmates, greeted her with a hopeful grin.

“Are those the famous Christmas cookies I’ve been hearing about all week?” he inquired, his eyes sparkling with anticipation.

“I’m not sure about the famous part, but yes, they are,” Hope said.

“You’re being too modest. My sister says that you are a big-time blogger, and you’re writing a cookbook. How cool is that?” Chuck leaned closer with keen interest. “If you ever need a taste tester, I’m your guy.”

Hope’s cheeks warmed at Chuck’s flattery. She never thought of herself as a “big-time blogger.” But it was interesting how others perceived her. Especially her former classmates.

“I appreciate the offer.” Hope chuckled. “Now, is Detective Reid working today?”

“He sure is. Let me give him a heads-up,” Chuck replied, reaching for the phone as Hope turned away from the counter. She didn’t have to wait long.

“Good morning, Hope,” Sam Reid greeted with a warm smile as he emerged from the inner offices. For the festive occasion, he had traded his usual tailored blazer for a bright red sweater layered over a crisp, white-collared shirt. “Merry Christmas.”

Thank you for visiting with me today and I hope you’ll enjoy A CORPSE AMONG THE CAROLERS. Before you leave, I’d love for you to share what your favorite holiday tradition is.

We have a beautiful song in Spanish called ‘Si la virgen fuera andina’, it’s about Jesus being born in Venezuela. It’s adorable and always reminds me of my Christmas as a kid in my home country (I do not live there anymore).
