My review of Rescued at Christmas

Rescued at Christmas by Janice Carter is the second book in the Home to Maple Glen series. It’s not necessary to read the first book, A Small Town Fourth of July, in order to enjoy this heartwarming book though I loved it as well! The small town holiday setting makes this the perfect book to read this holiday season (or anytime you need Christmas!).

Devon’s trip to Maple Glen was supposed to be a quick one. She was there to honor her late brother by visiting a spot that was very meaningful to them many years ago. However, her independent streak gets her into trouble. She doesn’t listen when the innkeeper warns her that the beautiful sunny weather was going to change into a snowstorm in several hours. Devon feels as if the man is underestimating her abilities and heads out, only to fall and be in need of rescue during the heavy snowfall.

Fortunately, Finn McAllister along with a search and rescue trainee, find Devon and are able to transport her to Finn’s family home. There, Finn’s mother, sister and niece shower Devon with attention, and Finn goes into protective mode. Finn’s need to protect and rescue clashes with Devon’s need to be independent, a trait she’s mastered since she’s been on her own for many years. These two characters are very well-written, and you can easily see how they acquired their strongest traits. I also enjoyed the side characters who come to life through the story. If you read the first book, you’ll notice some familiar characters too!

Once again, Maple Glen delighted me with its small town charm. I love Christmas in small town settings since it seems as if all of the residents get involved in the holiday events like the bazaar, cookie exchange, tree lighting, and more. Small towns are the perfect setting for a romance too! Rescued at Christmas has a close proximity trope which allows Devon and Finn to get to know each other and quickly fall in love. They do have some misunderstandings which are cleared up through real and meaningful communication. Life is messy, and if you want to share your life with someone, you have to be willing to deal with the mess together. I really thought the author did a great job portraying this truth.

I highly recommend this heartwarming romance! It’s got well-written characters, humor, warmth, and charm, yet it still tackles some tough relationship issues. I give Rescued at Christmas 5 stars!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
