In the heart of wine country, secrets run as deep as the vines.
Sophie Brooks, a food blogger and digital nomad, heads to Sonoma’s wine country to explore its famous vineyards. But when a mysterious disappearance shatters the idyllic landscape, Sophie must uncover the truth hidden among the whispers and the wine.
Food blogger and digital nomad Sophie Brooks is on her first stop in Sonoma, California, where the wine flows as freely as the secrets. Eager to showcase the region’s farm-to-table dining scene, Sophie is ready to indulge in the local wines and meet the passionate people behind them. But when one of the vineyard’s owners goes missing, the peaceful countryside takes a dark turn.
As whispers of betrayal and old grudges swirl through the vines, Sophie finds herself caught in the middle of a mystery that threatens to unravel the very fabric of this picturesque wine country. With her sharp instincts and a love for uncovering the truth, Sophie must navigate the delicate balance between tasting fine wines and untangling deadly secrets.
Can she solve the mystery before the whispers turn into something more dangerous?

A FaceTime Chat with Sophie and Oliver
By Sophie Brooks @thewanderingfork
I might be spending my days sleuthing through vineyards and sampling farm-to-table delights, but my evenings often end with a much-needed FaceTime chat with my best friend and editor, Oliver Reed. Here’s a peek into one of our behind-the-scenes chats, where wine and tea-spilling are always on the menu.
[Start of Excerpt]
Sophie: [Sipping a glass of Pinot Noir] Okay, Ollie, you’ve got to try this wine someday. Cartwright Vineyard’s 2019 Pinot Noir—earthy, balanced, and a little spicy. It’s like a hug in a glass.
Oliver: [Holding up a sparkling rosé] Oh, please, darling. Spicy Pinot is so last year. I’m embracing bubbles tonight. And what’s this I hear about you playing detective? Have the vines been whispering secrets again?
Sophie: [Laughing] Well… let’s just say I’ve stumbled onto something more tangled than grapevines at pruning season. Someone’s sabotaging the Cartwrights’ vineyard—broken irrigation pipes, poisoned vines. It’s a mess.
Oliver: [Gasping dramatically] Sabotage? In Sonoma? I thought the only drama in wine country was over who brought boxed Chardonnay to the tasting party.
Sophie: Right? And here I thought I’d just be writing blog posts about artisanal cheese pairings. Turns out, my sleuthing instincts are kicking in, and I’m piecing together clues like some sort of farm-to-table Nancy Drew.
Oliver: [Grinning] Amateur sleuth meets foodie blogger. I smell a new section for your blog: “Recipes and Red Herrings.”
Sophie: [Sipping] Don’t tempt me. But seriously, Ollie, it’s wild. Everyone here has secrets. Even the sweetest old ladies at the farmer’s market have a side-eye game that would make a reality TV star blush.
Oliver: I’m living for this. Please tell me there’s a scandal involving wine barrels and an uninvited ex at a tasting.
Sophie: [Winking] Not yet, but I wouldn’t rule it out. The way things are going, I might need a dedicated “whodunit” section on my blog.
Oliver: Just make sure you’re sipping and sleuthing responsibly, darling. And don’t forget—every good detective needs a fabulous partner. I’ll be your Watson anytime.
Sophie: Deal. But you’d better bring more sparkling rosé to our next call.
Oliver: Done. Now spill more tea—err, wine. Who’s the biggest suspect?
[End of Excerpt]
And that’s all I’m sharing for now—wouldn’t want to spoil the fun! Let’s just say, life in Sonoma has been more eventful than I ever imagined. I’ll keep swirling my wine, savoring the flavors, and maybe unraveling a few more secrets along the way. But for now, I’ll leave you with this: there’s always more to a story than what’s on the surface. Cheers to wine, friends, and a little mystery in every sip!
