Out on a limb for a killer!
In the whimsical small town of Bisque, filled with fur babies and friendly faces, lives a dapper cat detective, Sir Percival. With his keen intellect, a flair for the dramatic (and of course impeccable grooming), he believes he embodies the essence of a gentleman.
One fateful night, all seems well as Christmas lights and glittering snowflakes usher in a peaceful end to the day. But perched atop a towering Christmas tree, Sir Percival’s vigilant gaze spots a shadowy intruder lurking near a home down the street! His concern for the spirited little dog who resides there, compels him to embark on a daring nighttime escapade. But the shocking discovery in the little dog’s backyard is more than just a mischievous intruder–it’s a dead body.
Determined to solve the mystery and protect their humans, Sir Percival enlists the help of his newfound friend, Fidget. Together, they unravel clues that lead them through a web of betrayal, eccentric neighbors, and buried secrets!
My interview with Lucy Carol
Thanks for taking the time to share a bit about yourself with my readers and me!
Tell us a little about yourself.
I married my true love, had children, multiple jobs over the years, and finally settled as a dance teacher. Back troubles made me quit, and that’s when I turned to writing.
How long have you been writing?
I’ve written off and on most of my life. But it wasn’t until about 18 years ago that I started taking it seriously. My first book came out in the summer of 2013.
What made you choose the cozy mystery genre?
I chose the cozy mystery genre because I loved humorous mysteries. Janet Evanovich in particular made me laugh. I wanted to make readers laugh, too.
Do you prefer to read cozy mystery books, or do you have another favorite genre? What are you reading now?
I read a little of everything. But my two favorite genres are cozy mystery, and fantasy.
Do you have a favorite place to write?
My main place is my home office. But when the mood strikes, I’ll take my laptop outside to our patio deck, or even a coffeehouse. But my office is where you’ll usually find me.
What’s on your desk (if you write at one!)?
Uh-oh! Let’s see… A day planner, extra glasses, lots of post-it notes in bright colors, a measuring tape from my sewing kit, family photos I haven’t got around to put in frames yet, pens in every color, an iPad, and lots of bills!
What is the first book you remember reading as a child? What was one of your favorite books you read as a child?
I started out reading The Happy Hollisters. It was a mystery series for children. I devoured those books, and moved on to Grimm’s Fairytales. My dad used to joke that he was going to go broke buying me more books because I went through them so fast.
Do you like audiobooks, physical books, or e-books better? Why?
Confession time. I read more ebooks than paper…but…I buy hardcover books for my big bookcases. If I loved a book, I will run out and get the hardcover version. There are so many BEAUTIFUL hardcovers now, with lovely designs on the paper edges. I read hardcovers during the day, and read the ebook version at night in bed. I’m making plans to do this for my own books. I want to put out hardcover versions of my Sir Percival books (The Cozy Mystery Holiday series). Stayed tuned!
If you had the opportunity to live anywhere in the world for a year while writing a book that took place in that same setting, where would you choose?
The British Isles. It’s on my bucket list to stay there while writing, and finishing, at least one book.
What or who has influenced you the most as a writer?
It changes as the years go by. I remember loving Jack London when I first read his White Fang. But as I grew older, each new author became my favorite. Fast forward to now, currently, it’s actually a fantasy writer, Sarah J Maas. She wrote her first book, Throne of Glass, at age 16, and it’s amazing.
Do you have any author friends who support you while you’re writing?
Oh goodness, yes. With Facebook I have access to dozens of other authors that I can talk to. I do recommend joining local writers’ groups for in-person meetings and support. But the writers’ groups on Facebook tend to be more in-depth places of knowledge. They may not always agree on various subjects, but I love to see the hive-mind asking and answering questions about writing and publishing.
Finally, what are you working on now? Can you tell us a bit about it?
I’m working on The Cozy Mystery Holiday series, starring Sir Percival, a dapper cat detective with a gentleman’s code. There’s a mystery for each holiday! Christmas, New Year’s Eve, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. I love this series! Download your free copy of The Sketchy Christmas Tree.
Thank you again for taking the time to answer my questions!
