When archaeologist Dr. Mia Reid takes a contract position at the Lakeview City Museum, she expects artifacts, exhibitions, and research notes, not murder. The death of a local antique dealer, with unexpected ties to artifact smuggling, draws Mia into a dangerous mystery.

As chatter of an international smuggling ring surfaces, Mia and Luke race to uncover the truth. The stakes rise when threats reach her—and her beloved grandmother.

With lives in jeopardy and artifacts at risk of vanishing forever into the black market, Mia must use all her skills to piece together the puzzle. Can she expose a killer before the next artifact or person disappears?

Character Guest Post, Marie Tremblay, Gran

Hello, I’m Marie Tremblay. Mia’s Gran. I answer to Marie or Mrs. Tremblay, but I’m happiest to answer to Gran. Some of Mia’s friends call me that as well.

I suppose you’d like to know more about me. I’m in my early eighties. You don’t need to know my exact age. I’m reasonably fit, I swim almost every day with a couple of friends who live in the same retirement complex that I live in. I walk a lot. And I’ve been lifting weights too. My doctor and Mia have been pushing me to do that so I don’t become a “little old lady” as Mia put it.

I still live in my own place and have a Maine Coon cat that I call Cleo. She thinks she’s a dog and likes to go out for a walk in the morning. I have a leash for her and yes we go out every morning.

My husband and I enjoyed a long life together. I lost him several years ago to cancer. When he passed away, I decided to move into this retirement community and I’m glad I did. I’ve made good friends here and I don’t have to deal with maintaining a big home.

I had an antique store that was a lot of fun. I met some great people and helped them find items they were looking for either as gifts or for themselves. The area my store was in was well known for cute, funky little shops. There were vintage clothing stores, a few other antique shops, a couple of cafés, a lovely bakery, and a wonderful bookstore.

Mia’s parents are both archaeologists and they travelled around the world for work.  Mia accompanied them when she was young. They had a nanny or an au pair who travelled with them and made sure Mia was safe. Mia loved going to the digs. She’s always been happiest with her hands in the dirt and discovering new things.

When she was school aged, her parents decided it would be best for Mia if she didn’t accompany them on their travels during the school year. My husband and I had her living with us for the school year. We were all very close.

Mia’s mother, Marcelle, was torn when she had to make the decision to leave Mia with us. But it wasn’t for too long. And Mia enjoyed spending time with her grandfather and I.

She loved coming to the store with me after school and learning about the antiques that I had. She would make up stories about the people who’d owned the antiques. Who they were, where they lived, what they did for a living. She was like a sponge taking in all the information and coming up with something fresh.

I’ll admit, it was difficult when she would leave to go on digs with her mom and dad in the summer, but she always came back full of stories and adventures. I knew she’d be an archaeologist, it was in her blood.

She and Alex, her best friend growing up, are still very close. Like two peas in a pod. I swear not a day goes by when they don’t talk to each other. When they were in school they would get together after school, get their homework done and then spend some time helping me in the store.

When she left to go away for grad school, I knew she was ready for anything. What I hadn’t counted on was her falling in love. And she did. Hard. With Luke Forbes. That man broke her heart. I was shocked when she let me know this summer that she’d met up with him again. He was working on the Isle of Skye and was involved in solving Ethan’s murder and recovering artifacts. She wasn’t sure what to do as she still had feelings for him. When she asked me, I told her to listen to her heart. And she did. They’re together again and approaching life in a mature manner.

It’s been such a privilege to see the woman she’s grown up to be. She believes that the past forms the future and that makes her a very good archaeologist.

I have to admit, I’m concerned about her involvement with this murder at Timeless Treasures. I know she’s careful and approaches problems systematically. She’ll get to the bottom of this problem and help to resolve it, but I don’t want her getting hurt in the process.

She’s the only granddaughter I have and I want her safe. Luke has assured me he’ll do everything he can to keep her safe. And I believe he will.

Well, I’ve rambled on long enough. I’m sure we’ll chat again soon. In the meantime, Cleo needs her treats!

Good luck in the giveaway!
