My review of The Mistletoe Baby
The Mistletoe Baby by Heidi Main is the sweet, heartwarming first book of the Home to Evermore Ranch series. In this book, we’re introduced to a family who have chosen each other. Though not related by blood, through years in foster care or group homes, five chose each other and adopted the last name Evermore. After years of planning, they found a ranch where they’re planning to make a permanent home.
The Mistletoe Baby centers on Reggie Evermore who spent years on the rodeo circuit, but after one too many concussions, he took an early retirement. Natalie Patterson happens to be at a wedding where Reggie is a groomsman. Through a mutual friend, they’re introduced and somehow Natalie, with her event planning “experience,” is hired by Reggie’s brother to plan a fundraising event for the ranch. And, here’s where the craziness that is the fundraiser begins.
I absolutely loved Reggie and Natalie! Natalie is very pregnant with her ex-husband’s baby while all of this planning is happening too! A whole lot of misunderstandings and miscommunications occur while Natalie and Reggie plan this event to raise money to start the Evermore family’s ranch. In spite of it all, Natalie and Reggie form a friendship that leads to love. This is a bit of an opposites attract story in that Natalie comes from the lap of luxury, and Reggie does not. Though they’re from two different worlds, they find common ground in their faith and hearts for orphans. The other siblings are introduced in The Mistletoe Baby, and I can’t wait to read their stories!
This chosen family story feels like a warm hug. The setting is so cozy, and it takes place during the holidays. I love how Main brings the small town, the farmhouse, the decorations, etc. to life through her descriptive writing. If you’re a fan of books full of family warmth and a sweet romance based on friendship and faith, you’re going to love The Mistletoe Baby. And, you’ll love the adorable epilogue! I highly recommend this Love Inspired book and give it 5 stars!
