When a good deed might lead to murder…
Coerced into posing as a seer at her small town’s spring fair, barista and aspiring artist Amelia Wethers dives into the dramatic role, comforting herself that it’s only a few hours and then she can indulge in sweet and savory snacks. When the wealthy and snarky Summer Foster swans into her tent inquiring about the expected success of her swanky summer party, Amelia’s not prepared for the crystal ball to fill with smoke and reveal the shockingly violent murder of Summer’s husband.
Amelia grapples with skepticism, anger, and scorn as she tries to warn wealthy scion Phillip Foster that he’s a target for murder in a few weeks. Discovering she’s descended from a long line of psychics complicates Amelia’s investigation, especially when the town’s newest and distressingly handsome homicide detective dogs her every step and suspects her of murder.
It’s a race to the finish, and Amelia will do anything—including pre-dawn hot yoga, adopting her brother’s feral ferrets, missing dessert, setting herself up as bait and making a fool of herself—to stalk a killer.

What to do when you find out you’re psychic
Hi! My name’s Amelia Wethers. I am the star of the book Murder at First Sight. JP Bird wrote it, but it’s my story; I just let her do the typing.
I recently found out I’m psychic. As in, I get visions of things that haven’t happened yet. Let me tell you, it has been a transition…
For starters, the visions have been horrible. Why can’t I have visions of what I’m going to eat for dinner, or what tasty treats my bestie is going to bake tomorrow? That would be a handy skill to have. If I had a vision of future me eating one of Carolin’s amazing brownies, I’d know to skip breakfast and have more stomach space to eat all of them. Or, if I saw my dad wanting my help in building a worm farm for his garden, I’d know to make other plans for that day. But no, instead my first vision was of Phillip Foster, a wealthy philanthropist, being murdered in his kitchen.
The worst of all though is no one believes me. My up for anything, always has my back bestie, Carolyn, thinks I’m lying. Nick, the new detective in town and who is way too hot for his own good, thinks I shouldn’t be allowed out by myself. I asked my mom about psychics, and she said anyone who says they’re psychic is a whack a doodle.
But my dad. Thank goodness for my dad. I asked him about psychics; I didn’t tell him it was about me, but he knew right away. Apparently, I come from a long line of psychics on his maternal side. He thought the gene must have skipped me, so he didn’t bother saying anything. But here we are. I’m a little late to the “discover I’m psychic” party, but the gene has kicked in. It sure would have been nice to know this was a possibility, Dad!
So, until I can convince everyone I’m telling the truth, I’ve been running all around town, trying to stop Phillip’s murder on my own. I was almost arrested the other day! I’ve even resorted to talking to my nemesis, Cindy, to figure out how to stop this murder. You know you’re desperate when that happens.
I wish there was some sort of handbook for this. There are handbooks for everything else, but a handbook for Hey, you just found out you’re psychic, here’s what you need to know. Good luck trying to find that.
Since that doesn’t exist, I thought I’d share what to do if you discover you’re suddenly psychic, like me.
Number one: Sit down as soon as you think a vision is coming on. I learned that the hard way; fainting is not fun. If you can’t sit down, grab the nearest person’s arm, lamp post, fence, whatever is near you. If you’re driving, pull over!
Number two: Give yourself some time after the vision is over to take in what you just saw. Blurting it out to whoever is around you is not always the best course of action. Or bursting into tears, all that does is worry everyone. If any of your visions are like mine, they can be pretty awful.
Number three: Take your time, breathe, and center yourself. Write everything you saw down. Sometimes the smallest detail will be important later.
Number four: Replenish yourself with sugar. Chocolate works best, but really, anything with sugar will help soothe your frazzled nerves.
Let me know if any of you have any tips for me! I’m still pretty new to this and would love some help.

About JP Bird
JP writes cozy mysteries with quirky characters that make her laugh when they disagree with the laid-out plans for their story and take her on a different path. She lives in Winnipeg, Canada, and hates the cold weather but loves the winter months because they’re a great excuse to hibernate with a cup of tea or a glass of red wine. When she’s not writing or reading, she spends her summers in the garden and her winters plotting how to win her neighbourhood Christmas display competition. They don’t know it’s a competition, but she plays to win nonetheless.
