My Own Mr. Darcy is one of my favorites! It’s so much fun to read. Karey White is such a wonderful author, so be sure to check out her other books too!
My Own Mr. Darcy
After being dragged to the 2005 movie Pride and Prejudice by her mother, sixteen-year-old Elizabeth’s life changes when Matthew Macfadyen’s Mr. Darcy appears on the screen. Lizzie falls hard and makes a promise to herself that she will settle for nothing less than her own Mr. Darcy.
This ill-advised pledge threatens to ruin any chance of finding true love. During the six intervening years, she has refused to give any interested suitors a chance. They weren’t Mr. Darcy enough. Coerced by her roommate, Elizabeth agrees to give the next interested guy ten dates before she dumps him.
That guy is Chad, a kind and thoughtful science teacher and swim coach. While she’s dating Chad, her dream comes true in the form of a wealthy bookstore owner named Matt Dawson, who looks and acts like her Mr. Darcy. Of course she has to follow her dream. But as Elizabeth simultaneously dates a regular guy and the dazzling Mr. Dawson, she’s forced to re-evaluate what it was she loved about Mr. Darcy in the first place.
My Review of My Own Mr. Darcy
I cannot say enough good things about this book! It is so cute and sweet and fun. Right after I started reading, I had to go tell my daughter about it. You see, Molly and I are huge Pride and Prejudice fans! She has watched the movie (Kiera Knightly version) more than I have, but we could probably both quote the entire movie.
You see, the beginning of this book finds Lizzie and her best friend Janessa out with Lizzie’s mom. They are at the theater watching Pride and Prejudice at Lizzie’s mom’s urging. In fact, Lizzie was named for Elizabeth Bennett. Lizzie and Janessa are so not sure about this movie, but since they have to read the book for school, they figure why not get a leg up on the assignment. Surprisingly, Lizzie falls in love with the movie, but more importantly, she falls in love with Mr. Darcy. And so begins our tale…..
Lizzie has spent the last six years trying to find the perfect man. No relationship lasts more than a date or two. That’s because none of the men in her life are Mr. Darcy. She wants the Matthew Macfadyen Mr. Darcy. Tall, dark hair, blue eyes, seemingly disagreeable personality.
Her friend and now roommate, Janessa, insists she give her next date a chance. She makes Lizzie promise to date Chad 10 times before she dismisses him for not having Darcy’s qualities. Chad is so sweet and adorable and funny. Nothing at all like Mr. Darcy. Lizzie finds herself having fun. But then the “one” Lizzie has been waiting for walks into her job and actually asks her out. Has Lizzie found her Mr. Darcy? But what about Chad? You’ll have to read to find out. And believe me, you will be glad you took the time.
My Own Mr. Darcy is such a sweet, clean romance. It’s full of fun, quirky characters and wonderful mix of great dialog and narrative. The plot line is adorable yet believable which makes it all the more fun. I give it 5 stars and a definite recommendation to all of you romance lovers!
