Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 | Movie Sequels Yes or No?

Entertainment· Movies

Thanks for sharing!

Have you been keeping up with my summer fun series posts? In my Summer Fun Part One I shared about how time flies and the movies we’ve been seeing. In Part Two I shared about seeing Taylor Swift’s 1989 World Tour. This week I’m talking about movie sequels!

Paul Blart Mall Cop 2

Last week, I wanted to be sure my son got involved in our dollar movie days. We went to see Paul Blart, Mall Cop 2. I am SO glad I only paid a dollar to see this…well, $3 if you count the kids’ tickets. This movie was just nothing like the first one. Remember how hilarious the first Mall Cop movie was? I’ve watched that one many times. This one was just not at all funny. The theater was pretty full and seriously no one was laughing. There may have been one or two instances that were chuckle worthy, but other than that it was a bomb.

Purchase

It makes me quite sad when movie sequels don’t live up to the first movie! I think if you can’t make a good sequel, then leave it at one movie people! There ARE instances when the sequels of movies rock and are as good as or even better than the first movies. Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back is my favorite of all of the Star Wars movies. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is an awesome sequel, but the third and fourth are just okay. Of course, this does not apply to the Harry Potter movies because they are all based on different books and aren’t really sequels, and they are all amazing 🙂

Movie Sequelsl VHS

So do you have any favorite movie sequels? How about ones that totally bombed? I would love to hear!

Update June 2018:

Wow, this was a long time ago! Thankfully, my photo skills have improved, but I’ve got to keep this here just for a reminder to myself of how far I’ve come! There have been lots of new Star Wars movies since I wrote this post! Have you seen them? We loved SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY! If you haven’t seen it yet, go while it’s still in the theatres! You can preorder it too.

a few years ago, we bought the James Bond series and I could watch most of those over and over and over again (and I have). I agree that Hollywood should just call it a day sometimes.

Thank you so much for the lovely write-up. It’s been a pleasure getting to know you over these past five years and I am so fortunate to call you a friend. Here’s to many more great years.

I am ashamed to say, I’ve never watched a James Bond movie! We have a couple and Kyle has watched them. I am sure I would probably like them too! It is wonderful knowing you too!

I don’t generally go to movies anymore–nor do I watch TV. Of course if the Indiana Jones series is on TV I will sit there and watch every one of them–I love Harrison Ford! Actually there are a couple of series that I loved them all but can’t remember the names at the moment (senior moment here). AND we don’t have a $1.00 movie theater anymore–not even a $3.00 movie theater. I think the early bird special is now $5.00!!

I can’t wait until I have the time to go to a movie theatre and watch what I want. Sequels usually tend to be horrible because they are trying to keep momentum alive. I really liked Hangover2 ( I like to watch dumb humor). So glad I have not watched Mall Cop 2 but on your recommendation I will watch 1.

What a great giveaway and quite an interesting situation re movie sequels…yes or no! As I fond most sequels do not live up to their hype and only leave me disappointed that I looked so much forward in seeing the movie, only to find I should have waited for it to come out on DVD!

Movie sequels are a mixed bag. When they’re great, they’re REALLY great. When they’re bad that absolutely suck. There are certain films that just shouldn’t be sequels. For example, I know Jaws is one of the most beloved movies of all time, but they should have stopped with the first one.

I loved Lord of the Rings, Return of the King which is officially a sequel, but since all three were filmed at the same time you could consider them one film, shown in three parts.

I live in IL and I’m thinking of renaming it Seattle Mid-West because of all the rain we’ve gotten this year.

I tend to think they should stop at the first one as sequels tend to get a bit ‘diluted’ to be honest and I still don’t get this make three and then do a ‘prequel’ concept to be honest!

I do too lol. The sequels are better than the first, though the last was just okay.

I love going to those dollar movie theaters. The experience is in the theater part right? It’s definitely fun and you know you’re saving money too! My favorite sequel is the Godfather. Never saw Mall Cop 🙁

Yes! Seeing movies on the big screen is so much fun! You need to see the first Mall Cop. It’s so cute!

I think Mulan 2 bombed (in my opinion). The first movie was so strong and inspiring and had amazing music. The 2nd one seemed so small compared to the first it almost angered me they tried to make a part 2 lol.

They’re not sequels, but Ben and I are headed to the drive-in theater tonight on the OFFICIAL Route 66 in Illinois to see Ant Man and Inside Out. I’m taking tissues. 🙂 Loved doing this giveaway with you. Can’t wait to see who our lucky winner is!

Great! Hope the winter is not too harsh! I saw a map showing it was going to be worse than last year….not fun.
